Here are a few terms explained that might be in this story.
Starboard Side: Right Side
Port Side: Left Side.
Starboard Sail: Right Sail
Port Sail: Left Sail
Stern: Back of the ship
Bow: Front of the ship.
Mast: the pole holding the sail
You can combine then such as Port Bow, which means on the left side and on the front of the ship.
