Chapter 5:

When her name passed through the phone, his whole world stood still, as if the world were revolving around the of them. He felt nauseous, dizzy and even dead inside. Within an instant, the phone fell from his hand and just so happened to land next to his head on the bed. His life slowed; every voice and action seemed five times longer than usual.

"Sir? Vanitas? Hello? Are you still there?" The nurse's voice echoed from the cellular device Vanitas was leaving behind as his body shot from the bed to grab the nearest keys to leave. Although his movements were like the speed of light, his mind was in slow motion, as if he were completely drunk, and making him think he was taking longer than usual. He had to know why this happened and how this happened. She was perfectly fine only hours before. Was it a car accident? A fire? Did she get jumped? So many questions were swarming in his mind as he threw on a white tee and black jeans, almost forgetting his wallet.

Within moments, Vanitas was on the road and driving like a bat out of hell down the interstate and then into town. The hospital was only a half an hour away from his home, but if anyone had timed him that night, he had made it in ten. This daredevil didn't even stop at a single light, but instead, if it was red, he blew right through it (that is, if there were no other cars around). He was quite lucky considering not a single officer had caught him, like faith was on his side. Not to mention that they were all over at Naminé's house figuring out what had happened. There weren't that many officers in their town considering it was quite small.

Vanitas drifted into the parking lot, speeding through, and looking for the closest space to the front. He eventually just settled for the first spot he found and jumped out, leaving his car behind and unlocked. He only had one task on his mind and that was to see her. His heart was racing in his chest as he ran through the parking lot and around the parked cars leading to the front glass doors. He hated that he had to wait for the automatic doors to slowly open in front of him, he was halfway tempted to jump through them.

Finally, he reached the receptionist's desk. "Hello si-." He had quickly cut off the young lady with his own voice, talking louder than usual.

"Naminé Radivent, what room is she in?" He pulled out his wallet, grabbed his ID and practically threw it into the lady's face.

"Sir, I ask that you keep your voice down. Some patients are trying to sleep, and I would appreciate it if you were calm. I understand you're here for Ms. Radivent, but I assure you that she is not going anywhere." The nurse put her lips together and lightly pushed her glasses up before abruptly grabbing his ID. "Stand in front of the camera," she instructed, telling him exactly where to stand. She didn't wait for him to be ready and took the photo. The nurse printed his pass and handed it over including his ID. "Room 304," she said.

Vanitas took one look at his picture and completely forgt about Namine's situation. He went from caring to mad in a matter of seconds. "Wait, what is this? I wasn't ready! Redo it." His palms slammed on the counter and he stared her straight in the eye like he was about to commit a murder.

"Again, keep your voice down." She stared right back at him with the same look. "Sorry. One picture only, now get before I call security." The nurse pointed down the hall that he needed to go down while her other hand was placed on the phone. "Your choice."

The black-haired male scoffed, turned abruptly and walked down the hall to the elevators. While taking his walk alone in a quiet hospital, he clipped his pass onto one of his belt loops heading to the elevators. "Bitch," he muttered underneath his breath, still thinking about the situation and how she had threatened to make him leave. No one threatens him and gets away with it, but if it wasn't for the reason why he was here then he would've solve that 'problem.'
