"Damn, you really set yourself up making a deal with your brother," Arjun laughs. I had left the funeral and went straight to Arjun's. His place consists of a one floor contemporary monochrome apartment decorated with marble flooring and pictures of him and his fiancé Shamir.
"I mean, come on, even if you miraculously manage to get a girl to marry you, you'd just divorce her the second the money went through."
"Yeah, you're right." I sigh. Women have never been my strong suit. They'd throw themselves on to me for my money and I'd entertain them-Till I got bored of them and left them with broken hearts.
"Kaleb seems to already have a plan for all this; it's like he was begging me to challenge him. Maybe I made a mistake Arjun, I'm not ready to be tied down, especially not before the end of this year. I want to live and be free you know?" Arjun rolls his eyes.
"You've been 'free' for 24 years now dude. If you ask me, I think it's time for you to grow up. Just look at me and Shamir for instance; steady dating for 2 years and engaged for almost 1."
"That's because this shit comes easy to you! You know my longest relationship out of the 24 years I've been living was 3 months. 3 months! And you think I can get married in less than 6? You're out of your mente amigo." I comb my hand through my hair and sigh.
"I need a drink. Maybe 10."
"No Manuel; you need a girl." Arjun chuckles. Before I can retaliate my phone buzzes in my pocket. I look at the caller ID:
Cecilia.
"What's up shortcake."
"If you want to keep both of your balls attached to your body I suggest you to stop calling me that ahora." I can practically hear Cecilia roll her eyes.
"Well there's no need to get your panties in a twist C. What did you need?" On the other end I hear her shift her weight from side to side.
"The Grenade just opened up. You care to join me and Geraldine? You can bring Arjun if you want."
"Geraldine? You mean that hot barista chick which the double D's?" Cecilia gives me a short huff and I smirk.
"Can you just answer the question and stop acting like a pendejo?"
"Alright alright we'll be there in 20." I say and hang up the phone. Arjun gives me a skeptical look.
"What was that all about?" Arjun walks to the kitchen of the apartment and grabs an orange.
"Get ready bud, we're going out to the Grenade." I tell him as I head for the kitchen also, resting my elbows on one of the cold granite countertops. I look up and admire the intricate squares laced together to form the low hung chandelier underneath the circular glass table in the middle of the room. Arjun leans into the crevice where two counter tops meet, peeling the orange.
"The Grenade? You mean the strip club that they just opened a few days ago? You really think Shay would let me even breathe the air surrounding it?" Arjun laughs, popping an orange slice into his mouth.
"Cmon Jun, how would she know if you don't tell her? Live a little." I walk over to the steel fridge and take out a chilled bottle of water. Arjun shakes his head.
"I don't think it'd be right for me to go, sorry Manuel, but you're going to have to go without me this time."
"Alright dude, your loss. I'll catch up with you later alright?" I say as I make my way to the silver painted oak door.
