When I got back into the comforts of my house I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding in. Did Ian just watch me the whole time I was walking to my house? I pretended to be disgusted but the inside of me was thrilled.
I got up to my room, quickly forgetting the whole thing with Ian. I checked my phone and plopped on my bed. There was one missed call and a text, both from Georgia.
I dialed her number, a habit I get from my mom. If I know the number by heart I never go to my contacts, I just dial the number.
As it was ringing I looked over all the stuff I got at the mall today. I got the dress I'm going to wear tonight, but I also got a pair of earring to go with it, and Lana Del Rey's new album. I sighed and leaned against my wall. I wish-
"Hello?" My thought were interrupted by Georgia's slow, sloppy tone of voice. She must've been sleeping.
"Hey, what time does the party start?" I looked at the clock. How was it six already?
"Uhh..." She started, "Maybe like eight? He didn't really give out a set time." I laughed at the thick southern accent. I nodded, but realized she couldn't hear or see my nod I say that 8 is a good time. She said she'll pick me up at 7:30 and then hung up.
We soon get off the phone and I undress to get a shower. I am in my bra and sweatpants when there is a knock on the door. There was maybe a millisecond inbetween the knock and the door actually opening and standing there is Ian. He had a shirt on this time, and I scold myself silently for my subconscious self wishing he didn't. I am suddenly brought back to the situation when I feel air on my stomach and realize in still in my bra.
"GET OUT!" I scream. I think I scared the poor guy a little to much because he turned around so quick he banged his head on the doorframe.
"Ouch." He mumbled as he went downstairs.
What just happened?
I threw my t-shirt back on and ran downstairs. Ian was sitting on the stool by the counter. Madison was laughing while Ian had his head down, noticeably smiling. The sight of them laughing infuriated me. I slammed my hand on the counter, and that shut them up. If I didn't know any better I would have thought they were scared. I looked Ian in the eyes.
"What was that?!" I yelled. "I-"
"Tobie, Ian's family just moved in next door!" She told me like I didn't already know. Like the sight of Ian thrilled me and infuriated me all at once. Her worried eyes scanned me. "His plumbing was going to be down for the next few hours. He wanted to see if he could use our bathroom. I figured he could tell which one was the bathroom but I guess not!" She started laughing and looked at Ian. How is she laughing?
"Madison, how could you be laughing? He just saw me in my-"
"Pajamas." He cut in. Oh. So that's what he told her. I looked at Madison, then back at him. I let out a deep sigh. "Just, from now on, just don't come in my room. If you have to use the restroom there's one downstairs." I looked at Madison, her eyes were warming. "I'm going to get a shower. Georgia's going to pick me up at 7:30."
"You don't want to drive?" She chirped. I shrugged and went upstairs. My fury soon evaporated into embarrassment. I took a quick shower and put on my outfit I got at the mall today. When I heard my phone buzzing I picked it up and it was Georgia calling.
"Hey, come on!" She yelled, practically squealed. Her thick accent putting emphasis on the 'on' making it sound like 'own'.
I rushed out the door, not forgetting to kiss Madison goodbye, and away me and Georgia went.
When we arrived at Jon's house me and Georgia gasped. It was huge. There were people littered all over the yard, red solo cups everywhere, and more cars in his huge driveway than I could count.
I swallowed my nerves. I don't usually get nervous. Why was I tonight? I shrugged all the weight off my shoulders as me and my best friend stepped out of the car. I moved my fingers through my hair, it was still damp. But as the night will progress it will get wavy as it dries.
Loud music was blaring through the massive speakers plugged into the wall. People were stumbling everywhere. I looked at my watch, we left my house at 8 but with the 45 minute drive to Jon's house plus us stopping and getting gas and going by this local ice cream joint, it was already 10. Only 10 and half of these people were already hammered. Some guy came up to me and handed me a red solo cup which I took a generous sip out of then scowled. It was sweet. Very sweet. Too sweet. And it burning going down, a very odd combination. Georgia grabbed the cup from my hands and polished it off. She flipped her hair over and when she flipped it back over her freckles face was pink and she was smiling. Adorable.
As the night went on Georgia disappeared, probably with some friends, or with some guy, who knows. I stayed around the kitchen and made small talk with whoever came in. I didn't drink anymore after the sip of whatever at the beginning of the night. A couple came in, both trashed and eyeballed me. Probably for being the only one sober while everyone else in this massive house was the opposite.
They went on and as people came in and out of the kitchen I was getting antsy. I didn't want to leave the kitchen, so I walked over to the fridge and opened the door. Nothing but vodka stocked the numerous shelves.
I sighed then closed the door. As soon as it was closed I jumped out of my skin. Standing there was a drunk Blake, his wild eyes were blazing. I backed away slowly, like a scared toddler backing away from a mean dog, except it wasn't a crouching dog it was a stumbling Blake.
"T-obie" he hiccuped. All I could do was stare at him.
"October, baby, talk to me?" Disgust took over my face, not only the awful word of him calling me 'baby' but his need to call me by my first name angered me to a point that I didn't want to cross. I took a deep breath. "Don't call me that, either of them. My name is Tobie and I am NOT your baby." I sneered, a calm sneer.
"Why baby?" He was taunting me. "Remember last time Jon threw a party? And you caught me with that girl?" He asks and I slowly nod, my blood boiling.
"Well, I'm sorry." He looks down and I'm taken aback. What?
"For what?" I ask and instantly regret it by the look he gives me. "Sorry you weren't her." He laughs and I'm gone. My had connects with his face. Hard. I gasp when he looks up. I never knew so much hatred could fill a persons eyes. I knocked him so hard that he stumbled back. My mind told me to run but I was frozen.
He started charging at me when I closed my eyes waiting for any impact, but when none came, I looked up in shock and somewhat horror. Blake was on the ground and some guy was on top of him. I wanted to get a better look of the guy who literally just saved me so I stepped closer and I couldn't believe it. Ian Waynes was beating up Blake.
I watched them, to scared to get help or scream or do anything but watch. It was over quickly. And as Blake was laying on the floor unconscious, Ian came up to me, took me by the arm, and led me out the door.
