Trouble was one word, catastrophe was another. Whatever I called it, I knew I had now done the wrong. My eyes swerved towards the sleeping Sam. Tears started to swell. How could I have put him in this situation? A bang on the door made me wipe the tears. Throwing Sam in the open closet, I swooshed the door closed. "Come in..." My voice was wobbling. "Katie, I need to talk." Oh shit! Jackson better not need my gloves again. "You left the beach, I was yelling after you, why di...." sniff, sniff. My eyes bulged out my head. He'll smell Sam! "Why what?" He darted his look back to me. "Why didn't you hear?" He said. "I guess it was to loud, you know, it was a concert. Music, loud, noise."
His eyes squinted my way. A drop of sweat plopped to the ground, another running down my face. An instant later, Jackson was choking me with his grip around my rough neck. "Where is it?" I gulped a spit and made some words "Where's, who?" He yanked me forward and slammed me back against the wall, making a crack in the hotel for everyone to hear. "You know who, bitch!" screamed in my face. "I'll never tell, you'll only kill him!" I was barley speaking now. His grip got stronger and stronger until, Sam popped out the closet. Still holding my neck, Jackson through me across the room into the lamp, to where I fell, and stayed.
I rolled over to see Jackson ripping the closet door of its hinges, and too, thrown out the window. "Jackson, no..." I croaked. Grabbing Sam's shirt collar and lifting him in the air, Jackson spoke "What did you see?" Sam's eyes were wide and scared. "Don't, Jackson, it's my fault, not Sam's." "You know his name? How, why?!" Sam spat out the whole story. "I saw her kill my friend David! That's how I know Katie. Please don't hurt her again, hurt me instead! Just stop punishing her!" I saw the anger radiating off Jackson, but he still put Sam down.
"Poseidon will fix the wrong you have done. He is coming." I rushed to my feet and ripped my cloak from the bed and planted it on my shoulders. "He'll just kill Sam as well, there is nothing more we can do than run." Jackson stepped forward, and put his hands on my trembling shoulders. "I can't come, if this mortal means so much to you, protect him yourself. You know you can't hide from your own fathers." Tears started to swell again. "Jackson, I have done the wrong, now, I will keep Sam alive till the day one of us dies. He is my responsibility." With his thumb, Jackson wiped the tear on my freezing face. He smiled. It had been so long since I saw that smile. It gave me hope.
"Um, hello? Do I get a say in this?" We swerved to face Sam. "Not really. If we run now, my fathers will not be able to track us as good if we stay here." Sam was completely confused. "If we stay here, you will be hung be Zeus himself." Jackson butted in. "The God's don't lock people up like they do here, they kill them. If you stay here with Katie, she'll die too." Sam looked to the floor. "I don't want to kill Katie. We have to go!" I was already at the door. "Then let's go! We literally don't have all day!" Sam was out the door, when I turned to Jackson. "I'll hold Poseidon off for you two. I will see you again, Katie. It's an oath." I crashed the door back to it's position and sprinted along beside Sam.
He was mine now, and I had to keep it that way, or we will both die.
