We were on another bus. My legs were crossed on the small seat, my arms holding my hips, relieving the pain. Sitting on five different buses for 3 days, did not do any good for my petite body, which was use to running for hours on end. When they stopped to let you have 'a walk around', there was no walking; you got off, took four steps, and back on the bus for you.
Sam was staring at me again, i could feel his piercing eyes. "What?" he swung to the window, hitting his head. "Idiot." I said under my breath. "What did you say?" I let my head hang down. "Nothing, I said nothing, Sam." He must of heard the irritation in my voice. "We're nearly at Sydney, only ten minutes they said." Sam was trying, he knew I was sick of the buses, and the traveling. "It's still not coming quick enough." I replied, a little less aggressively. I wiped my face, up, down, left, right. My hands fell into my lap. I jumped out the seat and raced to the driver. "Stop the bus, right now!" I was aching everywhere, and needed to get off. "Okay there miss? We only have ten minutes..." "I don't care! Let me off now!" "Okay miss." the driver was so nice, but I wasn't in the right mind to be nice back.
The bus stopped, and we got off. I charged along towards the city, carrying my cape and my other necessities. Sam was straying behind, following of course. "Katie, just, slow down, we can talk about this." I was in no mood to discuss what ever he was going to say. "Look, can you just, Katie, Katie, Katie Stop!" I stopped, twisted around to face him, and started his way. A truck roared past, and no words came out of Sam's moving lips. I grabbed the collar of his shirt, reefing him back and fourth. "This is all your fault! All your fault!" He grabbed my wrists. "Katie! Stop! It's okay! Stop!' I pushed him back, Sam fell to the ground. Looking down at him, Sam was just a helpless human, that had gotten caught up, for being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, talking to the wrong person. I crumbled before him. It felt like all my energy had been sucked away. Sam raced to my side, placing a hand on my back. "Katie, whats wrong?"
I felt the temperature rising. Getting hotter, and hotter. I drop of sweat ran down my face, falling to the ground. "No." I whispered. "What did you say, Kate?" I gathered all my energy, to sit up and look at him. "Run." He looked confused. "What?" I touched his cheek, pushing his face away. "I said, you need to run, now, Sam. Run." Sam got to his feet, turned away, and then back. "I'll come back, Kate. I promise." I went limp, hitting the ground hard. I could hear his footsteps fading away.
With my face to the ground, the ground started to shake, cracking was behind me, the ground opening up. The heat coming from behind meant the worst. I felt a hand, grabbing my leg, burning. I screamed in agonizing pain, feeling my skin sizzle away. It started pulling, dragging my towards the screams from below. I felt the drop, i screamed again, begging not to go. Down. Below.
