Don't make eye contact with anyone, just find your dorm and hope your roommate isn't there yet. I thought to myself as I walked, well stumbled, down the long corridor. I had just moved to the UK from California to enroll at a local UNI. And I had no friends. Great.

I know you're probably thinking of me as your typical California girl, but no. I have brown hair with a hint of blonde highlights. It's not very long, but it works. I have interesting hazel colored eyes that may pass as mysterious. I think they just look like crap.

As I got to my room, I nudged the key into the door and it flung open. I felt around for the light switch as I dropped my stuff on the bed nearby. No one was in the room, so that was a relief.

I began taking in the room. I chose the left side of the room, closest to the door. Then I went to check out the little bathroom across the room. It was basic, a toilet, shower, and double sink. That'd come in handy, I thought to myself.

When I walked out of the bathroom the main door swung open, hitting the wall behind with a loud thud.

"Dang it, I do the same flipping thing every year. Sorry 'bout that. I'm Sam." I could tell from her accent that she was majorly British. Great, just one more thing we wouldn't have in common. She set down her things on the bed opposite from mine, and motioned that she'd be right back.

Sam seemed nice. I just hoped she'd understand me, accept me. She's obviously been here a few years, considering she'd slammed the door into that wall every year. I was afraid I wouldn't fit in with her. She seemed so independent and free-spirited, which I was guessing from her bright red hair. I was so quiet and not so open. I had problems, and she seemed just fine.

As she came back into the room, I thought it'd be best if I introduced myself now. Not like she's going to actually like me or anything.

"Hi, I'm Anna," I said simply.

"I had a cat named Anna one time. She kind of ran away after I tried dying her fur this like vibrant orange color. It was insane."

I just kind of chuckled at the weird comment. "I'm totally kidding. Hey, I'm going to meet up with some old friends of mine, would you like to come?" she asked. I never really got invited to much before.

"Uh, I think I'll just start setting up some of my stuff in here.." I said looking around at the barren walls. Sam grabbed my wrist to pull me out the door. I flinched from the cuts I'd just made before boarding my plane to come here.

"Sorry, but you're coming with me," she said as she pulled me out of the room and let go of my wrist.

No one can ever know about you, they don't want to meet you, you're worthless the voices in the back of my head kept taunting me. I tried fighting them because I knew I had to put myself out there. But then again, every part of me just kept saying to stay in my room because I'll never be good enough for the people here.
