The Prince felt his conscience waking up very slowly. We all know that moment when our mind suddendly remembers that it is actually able to work on his own, and it goes so fast that you already forgot what your subconscious was thinking about.
He could feel the warm and soft sheet of the bed on his body, he smelt this, now quite familiar, smell that filled the Royal bedroom. Something in between candles and lavender. Maybe both. He could hear a very quite breath close to his face. The Prince could also tell the presence of a delicate body still laying next to his.He finally opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was the deep blue of his wife's eyes, starring at him. A smile immediately brightened up her dainty face. He smiled back at her.
He wasn't usually one to show much of his feelings, and often kept a steady and serious face, but when he was with her, it was different. She was the sweetest person he'd ever met and he felt comfortable and reassured in her presence.Who would broke the silence first? Her obviously, she was the chatty one, he preferred to listen – even if he didn't hesitate to speak his mind every time he wanted. Although, he tried to judge for the best he was always honest with everyone including the queen.
"I was watching you sleep."
"Did it bring you any kind of interest?"
"Yes" she said after pressing her lips on his.
The prince straightened a bit on his pillow and let the queen placed her head on his chest. He started to caress her hair with his left hand and after a few minutes he said :
"What tasks are going to take your precious time today?"
"Well, I must answer a few letters and there is still some paperwork to do." She said nonchalantly. She sighed.
"I wish I could stay in bed with you. What are you going to do?"
"Well, I thought that maybe we could do this paperwork together in order to be more efficient and then go for a walk in the gardens. What do you think Victoria?"
"That would be lovely! Oh my angel we should go by horseback! It's been a while since I rode..."
"I agree. My last time, and yours too, if I'm not mistaken, was when we went to Windsor and Dash got hurt, remember?"
"How do you know this was my last time as well as yours?" She asked surprised.
"Because I haven't left you since then!"
She laughed.
"That's not true! You went back to Coburg for 6 whole weeks before our marriage. And it was terribly long."
"You're right." He answered kissing her forehead, feeling guilty.
She thought for a moment and suddenly said:
"Albert, I just remembered that I have an urgent calling with some gentlemen regardind some affairs in the city. It is probably going to be as boring as it sounds but I have no choice. I'm afraid we'll have to ride another day.""Can't you postpone the meeting to later this week?"
"Oh I'm not quite sure, it has been planned weeks ago now..."
"Please Victoria, we haven't spent one day alone together since our honeymoon. I'm sure you can find an arrangement, if you really want to..."
"I do! Of course I want to spend the day with you! I feel like we barely see each other in this palace. Do you think I can tell them that I have something very important to attend to and that I won't be able to receive them today?"
"Of course, they have nothing to stay. After all, you are the queen."
Charmed by his wide smile, she put one hand on his cheek, the other on his neck, and kissed him delicately, happily thinking about the lovely day that lied ahead.
