Aaron - Chapter 1
"Wake up Aaron" Giggles erupted as I felt the edge of my bed bouncing, as I rolled onto my back as my five year old sister Jessie was laughing, as she bounced up and down on my bed. I chuckled; I was never a morning person, as I grabbed her waist making her laugh louder. Lying back down I held her up as she squirmed like she was flying. I brought her down planting a kiss on her forehead before I settled her down on the bed, watching her skip out of my room.
Throwing off the covers from my bed, I stretched and made my way down stairs. I rubbed my eyes and shook my hair out of my face as I slipped a shirt over my bare torso. I paused on the wooden steps as I glanced at the family photos. My father standing proudly in his army uniform and beside him, my mother, Mikey, Jessie and myself. I gave a weak smile before I came into the small kitchen.
My mother stood beside the stove flipping a pancake as I kissed her cheek with a mumbled morning. Mikey, my younger brother aged 8 was stuffing his pancakes in his mouth with a glass of half drunk orange juice. Our house was small and simple. We made do of the pension my mother received from the army as well as money we earned from the family bar we owned.
I kept close to my studies with any time I had, as I had earned a hockey scholarship at North High Private School. Mum and I were astounded when I earned my scholarship for freshman year way back when. North High Private School, don't give scholarships or places to anyone normal. It is the hardest school to get into in the U.S, though some kids whose parents have enough money are able to buy them in and over my time being there I was now Captain of the team.
School starts back tomorrow, my uniform of long black pants, a white shirt with a royal blue and white striped tie along with a royal blue blazer with the school crest over the left breast pocket was freshly pressed and hanging up in my room. My mother was humming to the radio as I took a seat at the table and gulping down the freshly squeezed juice. Licking my top lip I ate the freshly, fluffy pancakes.
Mum's cooking was amazing, she run the kitchens in the bar even though I had constantly tried to get her to go professional with her cooking. My mom has a blessed heart. She does everything she can for my siblings and I, even with what little we have. When we had found out that my father had gone missing in action presumed dead, she took the death hard. If it wasn't for us keeping her company and showing her love she would have gone mad and depressed.
We looked out for each other as I helped wash the dishes. Mom's day was busy and planned out down at our diner, I had promised to take Mikey and Jessie down to the rink today to get them out of her hands. With my scholarship I was lucky to have my uniform, boots and equipment all payed for and I took great care for them. Next door had a garage sale a year ago and I was able to buy second hand hockey and figure skates for Mikey and Jessie.
When they were all dressed and ready mum dropped us at the rink before continuing out of sight. The school rink was opened in the holidays. Throughout the term it was a struggle to get ice time unless you were on the hockey team practising. Walking into the building I watched as the lights on the ice turned on as my siblings were getting extremely excited.
I walked over to my locker quickly in the changing rooms where 'Captain Stone' was placed on my locker. Entering my combination I grabbed my skates and locked my locker which contained my uniform and equipment as I headed out towards the benches. I slipped my skates on and tied them on before I helped Jessie who was super excited. Mikey was already wobbling on the ice as I guided Jessie.
I skated backwards as I held her hands as she slowly gained more confidence. Soon I was running in slow circle round the rink with them laughing and running on after me. Soon they both charged towards me as I pretended to slowly get away before they jumped on me causing me to fall over laughing.
