I look at your race, and I feel pity. Pity for how you live, the old values all but gone. Even the self-professed good people are selfish. The bile wells up in my throat as I think of you selfish humans.
I can still remember moments so long ago, lost to history like it was yesterday. Monarchs have come and gone; I will endure forever.
Oh, have I introduced myself? I am Lilith, a dark angel, firstborn of the tides.
The tides of creation swept over the world. My first memory is of rising out of the waves, feeling an indescribable joy rushing in my veins. A silver mirror rose out of the tides, glimmering and sparkling. I reached out, daring myself to touch it. A reflection of me glanced back, exhilaration written upon her face. Forest green eyes stared back, hazel marring the irises. My hair was black as a crow's wing.
One by one my brethren rose up out of the tides. Each received a gift like my mirror. But none looked like me. We were all suspended in the air, as if we were puppets on strings. A tug pulled at my heartstrings. Then another head broke the endless waves. He was the last and the youngest to be born of the tides. I craned my neck to gaze upon. It was a man, handsome and proud.
As we gathered into a group, standing in the waves' shallow areas, instinct drove me to clasp my neighbor's hand. We stood in a circle, or more accurately a pentagram. It must have been a fearsome sight to any outsider who looked. We were suspended in the air, floating. Suddenly, I felt a horrible pain in my shoulder blades. It was excruciatingly painful, and some of the weaker angels fell into the waves, back where they had come. I looked around and the others were bent double, groaning in agony. Iridescent wings had sprouted from our backs. Our crimson blood sprayed upon the tides. They rolled and twisted, like savage beasts trapped in a cage.
Then the tides calmed. A azure blue ocean formed where the tides had been. There was land to the north. A veil fell over the world, separating the rest of the world from us. We were left with the raging tides and land. "Come." I said in the silence. They followed me silently, using their newfound wings to keep themselves aloft. We flew to the north, towards land.
