College. The place where high-school students receive their first real freedoms. It's been a dream of mine since I was a junior in high to go to college in California, and who better to go with than my best friend, Brooke. She was a quieter girl with a sharp-witted personality. Her hair was long with brown curls flowing down her back, had light green-brown eyes, and beautifully tanned skin. It perfectly contrasted my golden red hair, dark brown eyes, and fair skin - your ideal Irish woman. If Brooke wasn't so short I might would of recommended modeling, but she had too good of a brain for any industry other than being a doctor.

We originally moved to Los Angeles towards the end of summer because our parents were incapable of letting either of us go. We hadn't been sight-seeing since we arrived because of the requirements of our temporary living conditions. The school allowed us to live on campus until we found an apartment or some sort of living arrangement outside of the school. This lasted only two weeks, so we were desperate to find something more affordable.

About the eighth day of house hunting, we settled on a smaller house to rent. The school consistently required attending morning seminars, going to surprise luncheons, and random evening meetings with professors. We were desperate to get out before any more sororities came knocking on our door, too. The house was below average in price for living outside LA, about ten minutes away from the school. The house was much nicer than we expected, and the landlord explained that this was due to the neighbor's throwing loud parties and harassing everyone off. We agreed that the house was a steal and that parties were apart of the college life, how bad could it really be? The move happened swiftly and before we knew it, we were standing in front of our new home with boxes piled above our heads.

I picked up the fist big box next to my feet saying something along the lines of, "Let's do this." If I only I had known how embarrassing that moment would later be for me.

"Hey," a deep voice interrupted us. We turned our heads to see a boy wearing a long gray shirt and black cargo shorts.

"Hi, are you our new neighbor?" I asked awkwardly while trying to peek my head over the box. He paused long enough for me to notice his brown head band that had the words "MKIT RAIN" written in bold font.

"Yeah, well my friends and I live next door. My name is Owen, and I'm sure the others will be over here to introduce themselves sometime soon," he laughed. "Do you want some help?" He swooped up the endless pile of boxes before we had the chance to answer.

"Sure, some of them are kind of heavy." Brooke piped up for me. She took the words right out my mouth.

We helped Owen carry everything to our rooms as we all gawked at the interior.

"On the outside, it looks rustic, but the inside is gorgeous!" The sound of Owen's voice indicated that not even he had been inside this house before.

It started out with the foyer having a glistening chandelier that immediately caught everyone's attention. Directly to the left were two French doors that took you to a relaxing sun room at the front of the house. If you continued to walk straight from the foyer, you would run straight into the living room that had a 70" flat screen tv and decorated with nice La-Z-Boy furniture. Behind that was a screened in porch that connected to the hot tub room, and to the left of the living room was the kitchen. The entire kitchen had been remodeled with new granite that bounced off the Park Harbor pendant lights above the island. A glass door at the end of the kitchen took you outside to see the view of a large pond, and if you went a little past the door you would find the laundry room. Going back to the living room and foyer led to our rooms. There were two suite rooms, one for each of us. Then a spare room for guests and storage in the basement. The first suite was to the left of the hall, and since it was decorated in red interior, I insisted on having it because of it being my favorite color. The room was fully furnished with a king size bed and a full bath. Brooke's room was further down the hall on the right with almost an identical layout, just her room had more of a deep violet feel. The house in and of itself was magnificent. We lucked out by far and Owen certainly agreed.
