The atmosphere of the apartment was depressingly low, and there was hardly any light within the rooms, making it hard to see anything. It was only five in the evening, and even though it rained a little beforehand, the sun should have come out by now - which it was. The only reason the sun wasn't illuminating the rooms in Mahiru's apartment was because he was the proud eve of a heliophobic NEET, also known as Kuro. The windows in every room were covered with long blue curtains that did more than an excellent job of blocking the sun out.
"Kuro, could you come in and turn on the lights for me?" Mahiru called from his closet. Although his body was about dry from the rain moisture, it was starting to get cold and he needed something warm to wear, as he was still only wearing his undergarments. His brown eyes stood out in the gray-scale room as he searched for his pajamas, which shouldn't have been such a problem since he simply always kept his closet organized. Kuro must have gotten into it while possibly looking for something to wear as well, since there was no other valid reason why his closet would be so disorganized. That damn neet, Mahiru thought as he continued to pick up and place clothes on hangers, reorganizing his closet. The vampire must have thought it would have been a bother to turn on the lights in a different room, since he didn't come to Mahiru's aid. After all, the boy had functional arms and legs of his own. But that was only partially the reason why Kuro didn't come.
In the living room, Kuro was busy trying to troubleshoot the television. Not too long before Mahiru's squeaky and annoying voice hit Kuro's ears, the vampire decided to play a different game that required his play station. Upon pressing the "on" button on the tv box, he figured it must have been broken since it didn't illuminate his face like it used to. The irritated blue haired Kuro smashed the button at least ten times before getting up to see if there were any external issues, to which he found none. The thing was plugged in and everything, he didn't understand why it wouldn't work. Kuro slumped down on his bottom and sighed, thinking that it would be too much effort to go into extreme depths of trying to solve problem. There was nothing left he wanted to do besides maybe eat dinner and fall asleep somewhere, but he wasn't the one who cooked around here.
"When are you going to cook dinner?" Kuro asked loudly as he walked all the way to Mahiru's room, breathing heavily and obnoxiously, as if to say "I've completed a long and tiring journey, reward me." Mahiru mumbled something with frustration and continued to pointlessly look for his pajamas in the dark. Kuro just remembered that his eve asked him to turn on the lights for him not too long ago, and only decided to do so since he was in the room. As soon as the light switch clicked Mahiru backed out of the closet to thank Kuro, but there was a problem. The room was still dark and depressing, prompting Mahiru to go to the light switch himself in case Kuro somehow did something wrong.. How could anyone flip a switch wrong, was it even possible? The only thing Mahiru was able to confirm was not that Kuro was impossible, but that the power might have went out. He looked around and noticed that he didn't see the usual things such as his alarm clock lighting up, a sign of functionality.
"Dammit, we probably lost power in the building," the brown haired boy said as he darted toward his curtains to open them.
"No wait, I hate the sun and I don't want to be in my-" was all Kuro managed to say before he involuntarily transformed into an adorable, fluffy black cat. Weak rays of a setting sun shone in the room, only illuminating it a little but just enough to see everything within it.
"Come on do you really need to have light right now, why not light a few candles or something?" Kuro's voice was a pitch higher since he wasn't in his true form anymore, which made his sentences all the more annoying and hard to listen too. He let out a sigh and carelessly jumped up and onto Mahiru's bed. The bed had a refreshing smell to it, like standing in a small flower garden on a sunny day that graced Kuro's face with a low soft breeze, forcing him to smell a mix of scents from all the flowers in that garden. It was calming to him, it made him happy and tingly inside, making him want to sniff over and over again. He let out a soft mmm, ignoring the fact that his eve was still in the room, listening to him. Mahiru gave him a weird look but only shook his head and left to open more curtains in other rooms.
