Chapter 9: Groups

They divide all of us by gender and we all stand in a single file line facing the three men from earlier who are looking around the room to make sure everyone is in their proper spot.

" Ladies and gentlemen this is the moment where you go from a child to an adult. We will call your name and you will step one step forward then we will tell you which group you are in and direct you to it. If you try to fight or resist you will be put to death for disobeying me. "

The king says. He looks at the list in front of him and begins calling out names.

" Rose Alexandra. "

A girl steps out shaking from head to toe.

" You will be a Nurturer, that's a very important job indeed. "

Her eyes go wide with fear but she follows the man who leads her to where the Nurturer's will stand.

" For those of you who don't know a Nurturer's job is to reproduce as many kids as possible and raise them. All of your mothers and fathers are Nurturer's. "

The king says smiling at all of us. He acts like its a dream job but how would you feel if you were suppose to make hundreds of babies with a guy you have never met?

" William Argon. "

A guy steps out looking quite proud of himself for some odd reason. He's definitely strong and well built and he towers over most of us.

" You will be in Nirvana. "

He smiles brightly and walks with the man to his group. No one knows what exactly that group is, some say that it's where you're shipped off to another place where humans live as equals but others say they just kill them for food. All we know is we never see those people again.

" Cassandra Baker. "

My breath catches in my throat as I step forward.

" You will be in Nir- "

Suddenly he stops and I see the masked man whisper something to him. The king smirks at the man and then looks back at me.

" You will be one of the servants. "

Great I have to spend my life tending to snarky vampires. I follow the man and he leads me to where all the servants will be.

" Sophia Baker. "

I watch as my sister steps out looking nervous.

" You have the most honored job of all you will be a Renegade and will train to fight along our side. "

My sister smiles proudly at the word " honored " but I've seen some of the Renegades on the streets and they look like they have had the life sucked out of them. I don't want my sister to be like those soulless creatures who are suppose to be human but all I can do is watch as my sister walks into her group smiling unknowingly.
