Chapter 17: New Old Friend

*Emery's POV*

I find Louis and Eleanor dancing very slowly. They sway and nearly fall multiply. Just as I suspected, they're drunk.

"Want help?" I jump at the sound sound of Cher's voice.

"Please." I practically beg.

"I got El, you get Lou." She says and puts my sister's arm around her shoulders.

I do the same with Louis and pull him toward the exit.

"Where are we going mum?" Louis slurs.

"Oh lord. Not this again." I groan. The last time Louis was this drunk he kept calling me mum and asking where we were going and if we were going to see Santa.

"Relax, we're almost to the car." Cher says over her shoulder.

We manage to shove Louis and El in the back if the car and I climb in the drivers seat.

"Want me to drive?" Cher asks.

"Nah I only had one drink. I told them I would be the designated driver." I reply starting the car.

"Cher, problem," I begin as the engine starts. "We're almost out of gas."

"There should be a gas station not too far off." Cher replies turning up the music.

---

After a few minutes of driving I find no gas station. We're about a third of the way home and there should be one around the halfway mark.

"Cher, we won't make it." I say.

"Calm down. We'll be fine." Cher replies.

"Cher, I am literally rolling down these hills." I murmur.

Cher shrugs and after couple minutes the car stops and turns off.

"Told you." I say.

Cher grunts and looks around. We're in the worst part of town right now. Not the middle of it, thank god, but every part is pretty bad. This isn't very good.

"We have to push or run for the station." Cher says.

"It's just over that hill, and we can't leave Lou and El." I say.

"Well lets get to pushing." Cher says getting out of the car.

I pull the keys out of the ignition and follow her. We position ourselves and put all of our weight into pushing the car. It heaves forward and we manage to keep it going for a bit. About halfway up the hill it gets harder. We manage to keep pushing until we're almost at the top.

"Put your back into it!" Cher growls at me.

"I'm putting everything into it!" I snap back.

We are nearly over the hill but we are exhausted. This just keeps getting harder and harder.

"Want some help?" the voice makes us both jump but we keep the car in place.

"Um, who's there?" Cher calls out.

"Name is Smith, Peter Smith." A man, about late twenties steps into the light. The first thing I notice about him is all the tattoos on his dark tan arms. His dark brown, nearly black, hair is a mess but pushed out of his face.

"Everyone calls me MadDog." he says.

"MadDog?" Cher asks in disbelief.

"Yeah, old nickname I can't eat rid of." MadDog says.
