R I L E Y

"Maya!" I hollered as my best friend came in the door. I flounced around in my floral dress with boots, my hair up in a loose braid. This is going to be a long day.

"Hey, honey! You ready to go?" the blonde asked as she flipped through her instagram feed.

"Yep!" I chuckled. "Let's go!"

We got on the subway and started on our way to school. My mind was really and truly going in circles. Finally, I was pulled out of my trance by the subway jerking to stop.

Maya and I walked into our school and I tried to play cool around Lucas, and Maya, and everyone that I came in contact with. No one, except Farkle, saw me after the whole kiss incident long enough to understand my feelings.

We had a half hour until our first class, so we sat on the bench. Maya pulled out her silver headphones and started jamming out. Lucas waved at me as he passed by, but he had to get to a class on the other side of the school.

"Oh, my goodness! Riley! Have you ever heard Jealous by Nick Jonas?" Maya asked me, jumping up and down.

I giggled, "Yeah, I have. It's good!"

She kept on listening and I sat there, floundering in my own feelings. How do I feel about Farkle? No, Riley! Think about one thing at a time!

F A R K L E

I can tell that she is really having a hard time. She isn't her normal, smiley self at the moment. Obviously she didn't tell Maya, or she would be comforting her and not jamming to pop.

I walked over to her, grabbed her hand and walked over to the nearest tree. She looked at me, hiding the tears. I pulled her into a hug and she didn't fight it; she embraced it, me.

"I'm always going to be here." I reminded her and she sniffed back tears and smiled.

"I know." She sighed. "I don't think I can do it; break his heart, I mean."

"Riley, you deserve to be happy! He is understanding, and if he isn't then i'll make him be."

The tone of my voice proved my point. I was serious about her happiness. One tear ran down her cheek and guilt flooded over me. I used my thumb to wipe the tear away and tilted her head up. "I am sorry for being so boisterous, Riley. I just want you happy."

"Okay," she sighed and I pulled her into a hug, just tighter.

L U C A S

Math class was weird. I don't know why, but it was. Riley never looked at me once and Farkle acted as if he knew what was going on, but he avoided it at all cause.

The bell rang and Riley scooted pass me without our casual, daily 'hello, howdy, hi'.

I sighed and started on my way to our next class, science, yay! 

We walked into class and Maya took her seat next to me, while Riley sat in her regular seat next to Farkle. They are the science gurus, so they got paired together to make all us dummies sad.

"Okay, today is a big lesson!" Our science teacher announced. "We have a substitute for today, and his lesson is the biggest one you'll need. Welcome, your middle school teacher, Mr. Norton!"

"Mr. Norton?" Farkle asked, jumping up and down with excitement.

"Yes, sir, Farkle. This lesson is for you." he chuckled. What?

We all quieted down and Mr. Norton slammed his science book onto the floor. All of us widened our eyes and were very confused. "Today, we don't need a book because that isn't all that matters. Farkle, well, he asked me a very important question on your last day at John Quincy."

"Oh no." Farkle muttered under his breath.

"I was asked if feelings could be stronger than science. I told him to keep discovering.  Well, I want to know what you discovered, Farkle, and all of you guys too." Mr. Norton said.

All of us sat there, staring. Farkle raised his hand slowly and Mr. Norton nodded.

"Well, for me, I have had to learn about the difference between what science tells us will work and think of feelings and the chemistry between people." He sighed.

"Lucas," Riley shot up. "I think we need to break up."
