I was awoken by birds chirping outside of my window. They must not realize that today is a bad day. I sighed as I hopped out of my vibrant comforter. Here I go.

I threw on my favorite skirt and blouse, paired with my new flats. I curled my hair and lightly brushed some makeup over my pale, sad face.

"Isadora, dear!" I heard my father call from the kitchen. "Pancakes are served."

I walked into the kitchen, a blunt smile planted on my face. "Good morning."

My father was sitting at the table, feet propped up against the counter with a coffee and newspaper in his hands. My mother poured syrup over my little sister's pancakes.

"Want some, Izzy?" Annalise asked, syrup now dripping off her face.

"No, uh, I'm good. Thank you. I'm going to get to class early."

I whipped around and flung my floral backpack over my shoulder. I didn't want to face him, but I had to. I was so angry last night, and he probably freaked. I told him to figure it out, because, well, I don't know what happened. But, I bet he did, and it most likely isn't good.

There she is. I have to do it, and I have to do it now.

"Hey, Smackle?" I ask, tapping lightly on her shoulder.

She spun around, a look of sadness and happiness all mixed in one. "Yeah?"

"Could we talk, alone?" I asked as her eyes pleaded 'no'.

She huffed and dragged me to a bench outside. I sat their for a moment feeling out the tension of the situation. She twiddled her fingers anxiously and I knew I needed to speak first.

"I figured it out." was all I could mutter at first.

She sighed, "I figured you would."

"Smackle, we don't have chemistry. You see, we go together all right, but there are never sparks or kryptonite. I have learned, from these two years, that it is not always true that opposite forces repel, because we don't repel each other. I think we should," I sighed. "break up."

She looked at me a minute, her lip beginning to quiver, and all I wanted to do was hold her. I felt terrible. I lifted her chin with my finger, "Isadora, you are a very special girl. You deserve the world. While I want to have chemistry with someone, you deserve it beyond words. I love you."

I pulled her into a hug and then got up. "Friends?"

She sighed, tears burning at her eyes. "I won't say that we can never be friends, because I want to be, of course. But, be patient. I'll need time."

"Take all the time you need, Isadora."

I got up and began walking to class, but all I couldn't. Not now, not yet. I went home.

"Hey! Have you seen Farkle?" I asked my boyfriend, Lucas.

"I haven't seen him, no." Lucas said, pondering where his best friend could be. "I'm sure that he is fine, baby. Let's just go to class, okay?"

I sighed. I almost went but something stopped me. I can't go! Maybe he is hurt, or sick. Last time this happened he was being bullied. It most likely is about Isadora but he never missed school.

"Uh, Lucas, I'll see you later. I'm gonna go find him. You go to class." I huffed as I went off to find him. No, he is not in the science lab. Not in study hall. Not in detention, wait, why am I looking here? Nope, not outside. His house? We shall see!

I opened his bedroom door to see a very pale Farkle. He had tear stains on his cheeks and I just ran over and pulled him into a warm, genuine hug. "What happened, Farkley?"

"I broke up with Isadora. I know it was for the better, but I felt so terrible doing so."

He teared up again and I just held him in an embrace still. "It's okay. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. You made the right choice, Farkle. You just have to take this opportunity to find chemistry, and find it! You hear?"

He chuckled, "Yeah, Riles, I hear. I love you, you know?"

I smiled, "Yeah, I know."

"Never forget that!" He chimed back.

"I couldn't."

"Why not?" He looked puzzled.

"Because, you keep telling me, silly!"

She always comforted me. She always made me feel wanted, or okay. I just wanted to tell her all my feelings: my feelings for her, for Isadora. I couldn't, I can't. I don't want to be the one that ruins that happy smile I love to see, the giggle I love to hear. No, no, no. Not now, Minkus. Now is not the time.

"Thank you, Riles, again." I said, leading her to the door. "I'll see you at the cafe tonight, okay?"

"Okay." She sighed. Her brown eyes sparkling as they looked back at mine. Oh, how I love her.
