"Are we almost there?" I asked, staring through the window at the endless rows of cornfields. We'd been driving for hours through the country side and I could no longer tell the difference between the towns we passed. More then anything i wanted to get out of the car and stretch my legs, they were starting to get pins and needles.Mom cleared her throat. "Pretty soon."

My brother Simon was following us in his car, as I glanced back I saw him chatting on his phone yet again."oh, god," I said," He must be talking to Lilia for the twentieth time now." " She just cant get over the fact we are moving." Mom glanced at me. "I'm sorry about this, I'm sorry about everything." "Mom, for the love of god its not your fault Dad left us, I mean nobody would have expected him to just up and leave".

It had been not 3 months ago, when he decided he needed to live life to the fullest. He had left us for a younger girl! My mother had almost moved on emotionally. She got a way to get out of it and start fresh. Her employer offered her an accounting job in a small town called Blue lake and that's where all three of us were headed now; To start a new life.

"I think it's good that Simon's getting away from Lilia anyway," I said, staring at my short, stubby nails. The packing and cleaning had really taken its toll. "Shes so whiny and annoying." Mom smiled wryly. "Bella, you haven't liked any of Simon's girlfriends." "It's not my fault he's attracted to the psycho ones," I replied. She burst out laughing and I couldn't help but smile. "God, you're so mean,"she said, shaking her head in amusement. I snorted, "Oh, come on. you know I'm right." She grabbed her sunglasses and plopped them on her nose." Yeah, well he is a little young to be tied down by just one girl,, so if you ask me this move will be good for them." I frowned, " Well I'm sure Lilia will have found someone else by next week." I pulled a face, "She's so freaking needy." "You really don't like her do you?" I shrugged.

I knew I was being unfair, but the truth was, I am jealous. My brother and I have always been very close. My earliest memory's were of my parents fighting, especially during the holidays. So, we'd fought storms together. In fact, for all our lives we'd been best friends; sharing and doing everything together. That is until tenth grade when he discovered girls. Of course I'd discovered boys but most were crude, boring and just plain assholes.

"so, mom," i said changing the subject which, i had to admit had me feeling a little guilty. "what were you saying about the place we're renting?" she grinned."i guess it's beautiful, it's a cabin on the lake that's been on the market for some time. the owners are related to Earnie, and because of our circumstances they're letting us stay there relatively cheap.

Earnie is moms boss; a really nice old man who has been very supportive. he has been like a father to her, which is good because both her parents passed away several years ago, and aside from us she has no one, aside from us.

"a cabin sounds really cool. do they have a boat?" "yes actually, Earnie says he's caught hundreds of fish, so we have got to check it out. I'm really excited about staying there. honey are you ok?" "something in my eye," i muttered, i blinked until i finally got the lash out.

i touched my long, unruly hair and frowned. it had been almost six months since my last hair cut; it was now down to my lower back. "jeez, i really need a haircut." she put her hand on my shoulder and squeezed. "don't worry, honey. well get one before school starts. once i get some extra money." "sure." i bit my lower lip and examined my reflection. black hair, emerald green eyes and a pug nose. I'd considered myself pretty average looking, my mom said she looked just like me when she was growing up. she turned out attractive, in fact most of Simon's friends said she was hot, which was pretty gross, but it meant that there was still hope for me.

I closed the mirror and leaned back in my seat, "i wonder what school is like." i was definitely nervous about going to a new school, although i wouldn't really miss the old one in fact, you could say i was a bit of a loner. sure, there was a couple of girls i hung out with occasionally, but i preferred being alone or with Simon. "Earnie didn't say much, but he has no children so he wouldn't know much about the school." "i 'm sure it will be fine," i replied. i didn't want my mom to worry about me.

she slapped her hand on the steering wheel. "oh, i forgot to tell you, they have a computer, so you can surf the internet." "YES!" i shouted. i smiled, although we used to have a computer at our old school and my mom had a laptop, I'd been nagging mom for my own laptop. "you will have to share with Simon, i would let you use mine but..." i smirked, "i know, you have too many important files and you don't want anything to happen to them or the computer." "well anyways, now you have one to use so you can stop nagging me for one," she answered. "at least i can download books from the library," i replied. "we'll be in the middle of nowhere, and I'll need something to do." "oh, I'm sure you'll find lots of things to do. wait until you start school and make some friends...or, " her face lit up, "some cute boys." i rolled my eyes, "seriously?" "i highly doubt that's gonna happen." "why on earth would you say that! your a very pretty girl Bella, don't tell yourself otherwise."

The truth was, I didn't really want to start dating at the moment. Everyone is always worried about their immature boyfriends and I'm just not ready to go down that path yet, specially not in my last year of high school. "It doesn't really matter." She frowned, " yes it does. You will want to go to all of the school dances. You don't want to miss out on all the fun. Trust me if you don't, you will regret it later." " didn't you go to the prom with dad?" I immediately felt guilty when I saw the sadness reflected in her eyes. " yes," she said slowly. " but, back then we were still together and we were teenagers." " Bella, you can't hide from the world just because your dad left us." I decided to change the subject, I could see the pain in moms eyes when she spoke about the past.

" how much further?" I asked, noticing some mountains coming up in the distance. "Mm, a couple of hours, give or take," she plugged in her phone. Seconds later Shawn Mendes started singing stitches. I stretched my arms and yawned. "Hun," she said. " you look tired, why don't you try and get some sleep? I'll wake you up when we get there." " ok," I replied, closing my eyes. I listened to the music playing in the background as I started to drift off.....
