I felt a vibration from my phone, but ignored it. It was most likely the girls, asking me what I was going to do about Eli. I mean, the prom was in a week, and I hadn’t said a word to him at all. I guess I could’ve gone to his house, but… No, I don’t feel like that would’ve worked. At this rate, I would not be going to prom, and Eli would be dateless. I… I don’t know what to do!
“I need some tea,” I say quietly. I get off of my bed, walking into the kitchen and reaching for my mug that’s always on the drying rack next to the sink. But I only grabbed air. I looked to my left quickly, scrunching up my eyebrows in confusion. It wasn’t there? I turned to the cup cabinet, but I didn’t see it in that either.
I went through all of the cabinets twice for that mug and I couldn’t find it at all! Where did it go, seeing as I haven’t used it and I’m the only one who uses my mug?
“Cassia!” I hear my mom exclaim, walking into the kitchen behind me. “I’m so glad that you’ve actually come out without being a zombie or carried out. How are you feeling?” she asked, putting her hands on my shoulders and getting too close for comfort. I backed up, eyes wide.
“Fine,” I say, looking at her as if she was crazy. I removed her hands and backed up even more. “Have you seen my Tigger mug, mom? I can’t find it, and I really wanted some tea.” I looked around before turning my attention to my mom, who wasn’t looking at me. She was actually looking a little nervous, as she was rubbing the back of her neck and laughing nervously. “Mom, do you know where my mug is?”
“Technically?” My face drops, and I couldn’t stop the sarcasm that was quickly woven into my words.
“No, hypothetically in wonderland.”
“I don’t actually know where it is, but I know who it’s… With,” my mom ends quietly, looking up through her eyelashes at me. I stand there for a second, and I didn’t think I heard my mother right.
“Excuse me? Did you say that you know who it’s with?” I ask slowly. Mom nods her head sadly. “Well, why would it be with someone? Everyone knows that it’s my mug, and no one would dare to use it.”
“He said that he needed it,” my mom covered up quickly. I raised my eyebrows at her.
“He?”
“Don’t hurt Eli, dear; he looked like he needed it as if it was life and death!” I walked away from her, grabbing my cell phone and turning it on and seeing a text from Eli. “You should come to the park soon,” it read.
Oh yeah, this is definitely a matter of life and death, but more on the death scale than life.
I walked into the park entrance, and was immediately surprised. I looked at the first picture that was stapled on the nearest tree, and saw me and Eli laughing. I was in a skirt, and I realized that it was the first Saturday, when we had seen… Oh, look. The poster of the movie we had seen had been enlarged and was right behind the picture.
Why is a towel hanging on a branch?! I looked at it confusion, and then suddenly started laughing. Eli dropped his towel when the boys had called me during Eli’s shower. He was trying to get the phone when his towel fell. I remember that conversation, clear as day.
Grand Theft Auto? I thought about it and groaned. Our first fight.
The picture of Levi on Eli’s shoulders. I smiled, looking at it. Ever since the day at the zoo, I always knew that Eli would be great with kids. I always would smile at the thought of him around his own kids; he would obviously spoil them to bits.
So, he did remember the almost kiss, I thought as I saw the sign of Kohls. I shook my head, happy that it wasn’t just my imagination. After the longest time, I was beginning to think that was the problem, seeing as Eli wouldn’t ever bring it up.
