It was a chilly fall evening, and you were walking home from a long day at high school. People looked at you weirdly as you quietly giggled and talked to yourself, but you didn't mind. You were busy focusing on your two best (imaginary) friends in the world, Mark and Jack.
You discovered them how most did, through YouTube. You were going through a hard time in your life at the time, and needed a way to escape, which YouTube helped to fulfill that need. Soon after discovering them and watching many of their videos, you started daydreaming about meeting them in real life and becoming friends with them; a dream that nearly every fan has dreamed of no doubt. Then, one day, you wake up to the sound of Mark's voice saying your name. Sure enough, there they were, standing right in your room.
Well, sort of.
So from then on they were your imaginary friends. They were always there when you needed them, for all you needed to do was think about them and boom, they're there. Sometimes they just appeared involuntarily, like to remind you of something you're forgetting or to wake you up for school if you're sleeping in, which made them seem all the more real. Sure, people might laugh at you, but to you, its better than having no friends at all. Heck, you would even say that they were better than real friends. You never cared about them romantically, like most fans on the internet would, and you never "shipped Septiplier" either, because to you, you were just three best friends who would do anything for each other. Maybe even family.
They both seemed to take forms of your conscious. For instance, Mark was your thinking and logic, constantly telling you "fun facts", helping you in school and keeping you safe, though he had a habit of overthinking situations. Jack was your instincts and feelings, telling pointless jokes, helping you to feel better when you're down and giving you more trust in your gut feelings when they mattered most, though he had a habit of being careless and letting his emotions get out of control. But you loved them anyway, and they loved you.
Then, your parents started taking notice of you watching unhealthy amounts of YouTube and constantly talking to yourself. Their solution was to take YouTube away from you. You were very upset at first, but then you realized that you still had Mark and Jack, and that's all that really mattered. Besides, they didn't say anything about no Twitter, Instagram, or Tumblr.
Of course, when your parents saw that nothing was really changing, they continued to take your internet privileges from you. Again, you still had Mark and Jack and that's all that mattered. Right?
As you came home from school, you overheard your parents arguing over something. "What's all da fuss 'bout?" Jack asks. You shrug. "Well whatever it is, it's probably none of our-" Mark was cut off and shushed by you and Jack. Mark rolls his eyes and sighs. The three of you listen to the argument.
"It's getting out of hand! If we don't something now, it's going to keep getting worse!" Your dad shouted.
"It's completely normal for her to have imaginary friends and to be on the internet a lot!" Your mother yelled back. They were arguing over you.
"She's almost 15! That's unhealthy, and it would be more understandable if she also had real friends, but THEY are the only ones she ever talks to!" The way he said "they" made you uneasy.
"Then what do you suggest we do now? We can't exactly take her freedom, or change who she is!"
"You now exactly what need to do!" he objects, as if this was something they had discussed before.
"For the last time, she is not crazy! There's nothing wrong with her, and she does not need to see that damn psychiatrist!"
The rest of the conversation was drowned out as you registered what there were saying. Mark and Jack were both as speechless as you. You turned and ran to your room. "Y/N wait!" Mark calls after you and they follow you. They found you in your bedroom, quietly sobbing into your pillow. Mark sits next to you on your bed.
"Y/N, it's okay. I'm sure they-"
"No it's not Mark," Jack sneers.
"Aren't you supposed to be the one that makes her feel better?"
"What is there for her to feel better 'bout? They think she's crazy! And it's our fault they think that!"
"Jack, we're supposed to be there for her. There no point in-"
"Maybe not. Maybe all this time we've only been makin' things worse. She has no friends, no social life, no talents, nothin'!"
"That's why she has us Jack! Don't you see that?"
"But what are we? We aren't even real! We're figments of her imagination, based on two people whom she'll probably never meet and don't know she even exists!"
"Jack, you're stressing her out. We need to think rationally about this," Mark says calmly, though he was wavering.
"Alright, let's hear what you have to say smart ass," Jack says, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall.
Mark thought for a second. "Well, maybe we're not the problem. Maybe it's... Them."
Jacks smug look fell from his face. "Them" was referring to Anti and Dark. They're the evil versions of Mark and Jack, and they did everything they could to bring you down. Whispering hateful and unthinkable thoughts in your ear, making you want to shut yourself away from everyone, and other things much worse.
"O-ok... so what do ya suppos' we do about it?"
"Well, if they do make her see the psychiatrist, which they most likely won't, then she can tell him or her what's going on. That they are the real problem and that we are trying to help. Maybe then her parents would reconsider their actions and we can get rid of them once and for all," Mark says as-a-matter-of-factually.
Jack shrugs, "Sounds like a plan tah me."
Mark turns back to you. "What do you think Y/N?"
You sat up, wiping your eyes of remaining tears. "I-I guess so." You sighed to yourself, "I love you guys so much, I don't want to lose you."
Jack come over and they both hug you, "Don't worry Y/N, you won't."- - - - - - -
So, another one shot, and my first time writing in second person point of view. I mostly just wanted more time on the next chapter of INFY (which might get renamed to either "Equinox or "Solstice") so yep. Quality before quantity! Also, I for one, love the concept of this one. I think it was kind of inspired by a Jacksepticeye xreader called "Schizophrenia". It's super amazing and it's in my "YouTube" reading list if you wish to check it out. I commented on a few chapters of it but just casually ignore those (most of them are silly and pointless). The author (jackuhboyy) is super nice as well, he/she responded to one of my comments and we had a neat little conversation. Well, that's all I really have to say so stay tuned! ^_^
