..............................

Sliding myself off his back, I let my eyes roam around the small apartment where only a black couch and a tv that sat down on the floor was settled as the living room. While the kitchen to my left only had a plastic folding table with two plastic chairs, but thankfully they had a big enough fridge.

"It's not pretty, but this is how Liam and I lived" I adverted my focus away from the interior to see the man having a grin on his dark complex, "So what brings you here Liam?" Liam scoffs and pushes a chair towards my direction "Nothing, just wanted to see an old friend of mine." This only made the man release a chuckle "and who's the lady?" stopping myself from looking around I glanced my eyes towards Liam.

"She's a classmate I meet, her name is Dawn." I directed myself towards the man and gave him a nervous laugh. The man only nodded his head in my direction "Nice to meet you Dawn, I'm Ray."   he kindly gestured. In my own thoughts, I began to question the situation Liam has brought himself with Ray, I wasn't sure if Ray was some type of uncle or family friend but it was odd to see an older person be so friendly towards Liam who causes only trouble.

"How did you two get so close?" Ray looked in between us as I felt Liam's gaze look towards me "She caught me fighting with my mom's boyfriend." Ray only whistled lowly "Does your dad know?" glancing towards Liam I saw as his expression slowly turn serious, "I'm quite sure he knows." reverting my eyes towards Ray I also caught that his whole demeanor changed too.

It was quite hard to understand what they were thinking, but I think I got the hint that Liam's dad is not someone to be messed with; however this only intrigues me to know more about Liam and his life.

"Liam how do you know Ray?" I finally asked

Ray only glanced at Liam and back to me as he probably tried to find any hints of Liam explaining it to me "Dawn, we both go way back. I knew Liam whenever he was in his own mother's womb." I nodded my head and began to fiddle with my fingers out of pure nervousness.

"So you were like neighbors?" I questioned out of curiousity.

"Hmmm, something like that." Ray hummed as he closed his eyes for a few minutes before reopening, almost as if he was remembering the memories.

"Oh I almost forgot Ray I'm staying at Dawn's house for a while until my mom leaves so I just came here to get some clothes to take" Ray smiled and nodded his head as Liam got up from the chair and went down a hall, leaving Ray and I alone "Is Liam being rude and teasing you" I looked up startled from his voice "Um, yeah but he can sometimes he can be rude...."

He raised his eyebrow at me and lets out a chuckled "How funny Dawn, but you know Liam is actually caring and protective of others. I find it humorous when he tries to act heartless or cold." I see the gleam in his eyes as Ray tried to recall the past "I remember the night when I first meet Liam, I was on the bus and was making my way to their house. When I saw him walking in the pouring rain," he paused and lets out a breathy sigh "he was all beaten up and had cuts all over him and that was only at the age of ten. Now it wasn't just a drizzling rain, no, it was the most horrendous storm that ever hit us, so instantly once I  saw him I came up to him and asked if needed help, which he hesitated, probably thinking if I was going to harm him or not"

"Do you need help young man" I asked the kid as he barely looked at me due to his bruise on his left eye," What happened to you?" I went to touch his cheek only to cause him to flinch away from me.

Feeling pity for the kid, I left my arm to my side and shifted my umbrella in his direction "I'm not going to harm you, please come with me to clean you up" he started walking backwards getting away from me, once he was at least 2 yards away from me. I began to lose a slight hope for this child, but the only way to get him to get close to me was for me to beg.

"Will you stop begging?" he whispered as he grabbed the umbrella and shifted more to my direction "I will if you let me treat your wounds." the child only glanced at the pavement and back towards me, "Sure." he softly whispered.

Once we got to the house I sat him down on the chair and walked to the cabinets and pulled out a first aid kit and started cleaning his wounds, each wound that would be deep I would go easily making sure it didn't sting a lot.

"Is that your family" he pointed at a picture that was on the table, I smiled and gulped down a lump that was on my throat, "yes" I looked back down to look at him to see him have a grateful look on his eyes "thank you sir" I nodded my head at him "anytime" I walked away from him and went to the fridge and grabbed him a can of soda.

I handed him the soda and he took it and opened it "what's your name young man" I asked as I went to sit on the chair that was across of him "Liam...Liam Dyer" I stopped myself from drinking the soda as I heard his last name, but I didn't want to scare the poor kid so I instantly remarked him back, "That's a nice name" Liam smiled back, "What's your name?" he questioned back "Ray" I put my hand up and he did the same and we both shook our hands together.

"You are welcome to stay at my house anytime you need to" he looked at me surprised "Are are you sure Ray?!" I smiled at him and nodded my head at him "I'm sure" Liam only stared at me blankly in shock.

"Why that face?" I chuckled only to reieved a mad shocking comment "I have never felt welcomed before."
