If you don't enjoy sports or volleyball, read this anyway. There is a point in why I am writing this.
Today is game day! I was ready to beat the team that walked on MY court. Everyone was ready to defend our home.
I walked into 5th period, and everyone was talking about sports. Vaughn said, "Yeah, you guys are lose today. All of y'all suck! Unlike the football the team who is undefeated so far" he taunted in my face. I tried to lift my head up high, but I had doubt. "Thanks for ruining my self-esteem, Vaughn!" I thought sarcastically--- (time skip till after school)
His words kept repeating in my head when I walked on the court. I pushed those thoughts out of my brain, but it crept in a couple times. We were losing, no duh. 24-21. All we had to do was make 1 mistake and we lost! But I pushed forward and didn't stop. 24-22. 24-23. 24-25. "One more point!" Is what we all said to each other. I am a middle front, so I stood up tall with my hands raised. My heart pumping at the thought. "No mistakes" I said to myself.
It was our serve, so the ball went over the net. Pass...... Set..... Hit........
The ball came to our side, middle back passed straight up ....... Setter set to me...... "Left, right left" I said and my feet followed my command.
"You guys are gonna lose today! All of y'all suck!" His words kept repeating in my mind.
"No! That's not true!" I thought to myself while doing my approach. Next thing I knew I looked behind me, and the score was, 24-26.
Everyone was huddled up screaming in eachothers ears and jumping on top of each other. I couldn't stop smiling and screaming. I wanted that moment to last forever. Me hearing nothing but the screams of joy was beautiful. I loved the feeling. I looked up and saw Vaughn in the stands looking at me and clapping. "I proved you were wrong" I mouthed to him, "I know, good job" he mouthed back. I smiled and he kept clapping.
Sadly, the wonderful moment ended, but I couldn't stop jumping. I don't know why.
---(next day)
"Thank you" I told Vaughn what went through my mind.
"Anytime, if you need a let down, tell me" we both laughed at his sarcastic remark.
In the middle of class, I ran through the game. I smiled to myself as the feeling of pure joy came back into my body.
Moral of the story:
Don't let anyone put you down. Overcome the thought of doubt; that is the key to success.
