PROLOUGE
Marianne Sloosen 1854, Ballarat, Victoria
Mother, it's quiet crowded here, very heavy with the gold mining. Occasionally there will be horses and carriages pulled onto the dirt streets throughout town, the hooves and wheels creating sounds that set me on nerve.
It was in the early hours of the morning that a mine collapsed, remember I mentioned young Joey Mills last week? His memorial will be organised by the end of the month and to show that I will help others who are a lower class than me I donated some shillings to the Mills family. It will help for a grander memorial.
Tonight the men are planning a rebellion for their mining licenses and other pointless things. Garry Fieldsmen and I are planning to escape Sovereign Hill, you know that are kind aren't helpful when it comes to quarrels. We would feel the death and destruction that will be committed into the night.
I have Leah with me now; she still doesn't understand our beings. Garry has her at his stables, waiting for me to arrive with the choker full of
The diary of Marianne Sloosen was cut short.
I sighed; this was the last entry she wrote, making me wonder what the choker was full of. But the girl's name, Leah... it rang a bell somehow but I didn't think I knew anyone by that name.
I closed the diary softly, placing the old paper back into its damaged cover and wrapping the worn leather strap around it then hid it behind my bookcase. No one had to know I was after that choker.
"Garry!" the yell came from my foster parents' daughter, Chandelle.
"What?" I called out gritting my teeth.
"Dinner..." she sang and I heard her figure skip down the carpeted stairs. I turned around to make sure the diary was well hidden and went downstairs. Chandelle's honey blond hair was swinging as she sat down on one of the stools stationed at the bench.
"What did you cook up this time?" I asked smelling cheese.
"Aussie Pizza." She said while throwing a grin over her shoulder.
I shook my head, "Nah, not hungry."
Chandelle turned over to the dining table and gave a satisfactory laugh, "See Lee!"
I turned to see a new face, not one of Chandelle's popular friends but a strawberry blonde girl with eyes so red it looked brown. It's her.
