He walked into geometry class and quickly took his seat in the back of the room while the teacher started taking attendance."Grethan," she called out in a bored voice.
"Um...here," was the quiet reply.
As Grethan heard snickers throughout the room he put his head down and studied his hands, his dark hair falling in front of his brown eyes.
He looked up when he heard the door open and the new student walked in, one earbud in that was slightly hidden behind her purple hair.
She talked to the teacher before walking down the aisle and sitting in the only empty seat which happened to be right next to Grethan.
"Uhg another freak. This is just great."
"Yeah but she's hot though."
"Are you kidding me? Look at her with her purple hair and- what does that shirt even say? Black Veil Brides? What kind of emo shit is that?"
"Gross. She's totally a lesbian."
"I would still bang h-"
"The names Raven. I'm your new classmate whether you like it or not. I can tell you don't; the feelings mutual. But you're just gonna have to get used to me. And for the record, I'm not a lesbian. This band has more talent than anyone in this room and my hair should be none of your concern. But wow thanks for spending so much time thinking and talking about me." She winked as she finished her speech and everyone just stared at her, a few with their jaws dropped. Being as she was about as indimidating as a flower, no one really expected her to say anything. She smirked in satisfaction at their reaction and closed her eyes, listening to the music screaming through her earbuds.
"Did she really just do that?"
"Who does she think she is?"
"And she's sitting by Grethan...gross."
"Oh please they're perfect for each other."
Grethan tried to ignore them and focused on his drawing instead.
"Hey cool drawing. You watch a lot of anime?"
He looked over at Raven and nodded while closing his notebook, not really wanting her or anyone to see it.
She noticed but didn't say anything about it. "Same here. You must be Grethan?" She got another nod in aresponse and tilted her head to the side, "you don't talk much do you?" He shook his head and she sighed. "I'll get you to talk to me eventually."
Shrugging, Grethan took out his notebook and pen as the teacher started today's lesson. Raven was curious about him, he seemed like his mind was somewhere else so instead of taking notes she just watched him. Tried to think of a way to get him to talk. To her it didn't seem like it would be that hard. But he knew that he wasn't going to let her get into his head. He couldn't. He's been hurt too much already; he doesn't need that. So little did Raven know, Grethan was just as stubborn as her.
Grethan knew she was watching him. He kept seeing her out of the corner of his eye and couldn't help but wonder why. Why she was so interested in him. Why she was so confident even though she probably never would be able to protect herself when they ended up "putting her in her place" as they called it.
The bell finally rang and everyone packed up their stuff and moved to their next class. For Grethan it was gym and, because he seems to have bad luck, it was Raven's next class too.
"Aye Grethan wait up!"
Yeah he heard her. He could've been nice and turned around. Walked to class with her. But he didn't. Instead he completely ignored her and kept walking, determined to make her realize she needed to stay away from him.
And that was when he was shoved against a locker, not trying to defend himself because he knew it would be useless and just make this boy more mad. So instead he looked to the side since he didn't want to look Tony in the eyes. As he looked around he met eyes with Raven. She was scared, wondering why he was in that situation, nonetheless she walked towards them. Grethan shook his head fast, making her stop.
"Trying to skip out on the morning routine I see," Tony smirked as he said this, "well just for that you get an extra special surprise." A few of his friends walked over and Grethan knew he was in trouble.
For five minutes it was nothing but punching and kicking with a few words mixed in. Then they just walked to class like nothing happened and Raven was nowhere to be seen either. After a few more minutes of laying there he slowly dragged himself up and grabbed him bag.
"No point in going to class now," he mumbled to himself and started walking to the library. It was the only place he could be without anyone bothering him.
The librarian took one look at him and sighed, shaking her head. She knew what was happening but no matter how many times she asked him about it he would always deny it. Always said he was just really clumsy. He nodded at her then, grabbing a book on the way, walked to the back and sat in the corner. He read through gym, then through lunch since he never goes there anyway.
The bell rang before he knew it and he got himself up and went to his next class, English. Raven was already there. And she was sitting next to where he always sits. Great.
She looked at him as he sat down cringing because everything still hurt from earlier.
"Are you okay?" He gave her a look that said 'what do you think?' "Sorry stupid question. Why did they do that?" She got a shrug in response. He studied her for a minute and she seemed to be fine. That's good. They haven't done anything to her. Yet. "Do they do this a lot?" A nod. "Did you do anything to make them hate you or something?" A head shake. "Why won't you answer with words?" A shrug. She sighed.
I'll figure him out someday. She promised herself that.
