Jake walked by the basement door, paused in front of it and listened. Faint, snake-like whispers shot by his ears. He quickly walked away, uncomfortable even though it happened every time he passed the basement. Jake had been living alone in the house for five years after his parents had passed away mysteriously. The bodies were never found, but it was as if they were still there in the house with him. Jake believed in ghosts, which he thought was strange, since he was almost twenty-three years old, but he knew that his parents could not have been haunting his basement, since the sounds have been happening before Jake was born. It was getting late when Jake walked upstairs past his parents room, which still had some of their old belongings from before they died. When he got to his bedroom, he laid in his bed and though about anything but his basement, which was hard because he could hear sounds from the basement from his room, which was right above the staircase.
After the long night, Jake got dressed and went to work at the local McDonald's. "You really think that there are ghosts in your basement? That sounds like something my six-year-old brother would have said when he was scared of the power-outage we had two years ago ", John said to Jake after John heard about his co-worker's experiences. John was the new employee at the McDonald's. He was sixteen years old and needed some money for a car. "Well do you want to see my house, then you'll believe me about my basement" Jake said to John as he was handing food to a customer in the drive-through. At the end of the day, Jake asked if John would come over to see the basement and then maybe he will believe that something is down there. He might even figure out what is down there. "Okay, I'll go. Maybe you'll get over your fears of your basement" John told Jake at the end of their shifts.
When John and Jake arrived at their destination, Jake showed him the basement. "Listen, do you hear that?" Jake asked, listening to the faint whispers. "Hear what, dude" John replied. "Those whispers. There they are again." The sharp whispers shop by their ears. "Okay, that's creepy. Open the door, I wanna see" John said. "No way, I don't even know what's down there myself." But John snatched the door knob and opened it. "No!" Jake yelled. A cold rush of wind passed by the two of them, dropping the temperature in the house by at least ten degrees. "Oh no, what have you done? You could have let whatever is down there into my house!" Jake screamed. "Dude, chill. It's probably just like an air conditioner or something." John said ignorantly. "No one has been down there in over twenty-five years. There is no way an air conditioner could be down there and still running. Sometimes you should think before you say something so stupid." John started to get angry. "Oh really, why don't you go check!" John said angrily and shoved Jake down the staircase.
Jake looked at his surroundings. He was trembling, he couldn't even stand up. Then he heard something, an eerie moan. "Ugh" he heard, and out of the corner of his eye, he saw a shadow move. "Aaahhhh. Holy, what the, run!" He bolted up the stairs and slammed the door shut. "What the heck, John? I could have died down there!" The room went silent for a few seconds. Loud pounding from the other side of the basement door broke the silence. The same moaning sound sent a chill down their spines. "Come with me a second, John" Jake said, voice full of fear. "Okay" he replied, and followed Jake into the kitchen. When they got in the kitchen, John asked, "What are we doing, exactly?" Jake turned and said, "This." He grabbed two large knives and handed one to John. They slowly walked back to the basement door, but when they got there, the door was open. "Wait, what?"Jake said to himself. Then, from behind the two of them, they heard the eerie moan. They turned, screamed, and Jake swung the knife at the creature, splitting it open. It was the most disturbing thing he had ever seen. He closed the basement door and threw the corpse in the dumpster.
The next day in work, John told Jake that he was kicked out of parent's house and he needed somewhere to live. "You really want to live with me after what happened yesterday?" Jake asked after John had asked to live with him. "Yeah, that was pretty sick" John said. Jake told him he could sleep in an inflatable bed in his room. "Okay, thanks dude" John said. Later that day, John went to his new home, then asked, "Hey, wanna go do something in the basement?" Jake turned and with a questioned face said, "What? No way I'm doing anything with that basement ever again" Jake told him. "Okay, suit yourself" John said, then opened the door and walked down. "Wait no, what?" Jake thought for a second, then ran after him. "You don't know what's down there!" he called, but there was no answer. Jake slowly walked further into the basement until, "Aaahhhh!" he screamed, but it was only John. "I hate it down here"
