Ben's POV
"Anna! Dinner's ready! Come down to eat!" I wait for a few seconds, then try again "Anna? Do you hear me? Anna!".
"Ben it's ok, she'll come down soon, you said that she didn't even have lunch. She's probably doing homework, alright? In grade 8 there's quite a bit of homework, remember?" Melodie says.
I don't respond. "Ben?" she puts a hand on my shoulder. "Ben, what's wrong?" The pressure on my shoulder makes me relax a bit. Having her touch, having her worry 'bout me. Made me feel better. Even though we only met last year, in grade 10 (I can still remember that adorable lost look on her face, wandering down the halls, being the new kid all over again) we became immediate friends from that day on, from the day, the moment when I helped her round the school, I still can't believe how she was ignored. Everyone walking by to their classes, some pushing shoving to get through the halls. She was walking, asking random students for help, then from behind got pushed and fell on the ground, losing her glasses during the fall. I knew I was going to be late for english, and I just couldn't stand watching her clumsily walking through the halls any longer, being so helpless... and cute. I walked over to where her glasses had skidded on the floor, thank god they didn't shatter and then walked over to her, while she frankly searching the ground while her stuff got kicked by students walking by. A grade 9 (I think) stopped by and picks up some books, looks around, sees me then hands them over. "Thank you" I say, she smiles and walks away, running to catch up with her friends. I walk to the girl on the ground and put take her hands in mine for a sec, to calm her, then place the glasses on her face. She blinks then squints and blushes, smiling the most adorable smile, reminding me a bit of Anna's smile. I wonder how her first day is going? And from that day on, we became friends, started to know each other and this year we decided to take it the next level, and started dating.
"Ben? Are u ok? Is something bothering you, something wrong?" Melodie's voice brought me back to reality and I no longer felt her touch on my shoulder.
"Yeah, just lost in thought I guess. It's just i'm real worried 'bout Anna at the moment, she's not in best shape, and I don't know how to help." I say, I spill my thoughts to her. I can't keep secrets from her, or thoughts.
"Don't worry, i'm thinking maybe talking to her would be a good idea, but then she probably just needs space right now, listen she'll come along, and she's off to secondary next year anyways, that's where everyone gets a new start, new friends, new classes, new school." she replies. "C mon, i'll go check up on her and you go set the table, loosen up! She'll be fine, promise" and with those last words hurried up the stairs.
I was left standing there, alone. I should go set the table. And with that last thought set off for the kitchen.
