Emiko had already had a bad day. Her huge crush flat out rejecting her didn't help.
The flowers she gave to him? Wilted and returned.
The love letter she sent? Crumpled up and in the trash with all the others.
The butterfly she had caught and put into a jar for him? Probably already dead. It was stupid idea anyway...
Emiko trudged down the path that led to her home in Konoha, the sun bright, and the birds chirping. It was almost as if the gods were laughing at her. They probably were...
She was never the pessimistic type. Emiko was usually skipping around, her cheerful aura illuminating her surroundings. But today was different. After all her failed attempts, she confronted Sasuke and asked whether or not he really cared about her. But he shunned her and told her that a girl like her shouldn't have tried to become a ninja.
She sighed as she pushed the big doors of her home open, greeted the familiar tree that stood proudly in the courtyard, protecting outsiders from her home. But her compound wasn't protected by one single tree, her clan had an entire forest to themselves. It sometimes makes her wonder why they were a moon clan, and not a tree clan. Mochizuki does mean full moon after all...
An explosion rang in the air, smoke billowing from inside the main house. She shook her head, exasperated. 'Must be mom again...' Emiko pushed the second set of doors leading to the living room and kitchen open, and smoke exploded in her face, leading her to nearly cough her lungs out.
"MOM?! Did you try to cook the ham with a fire style jutsu again?! You know you're not good at that!!" She called as she stepped into the room and plopped herself onto the couch.
"That's what you're worried about?!" My dad exclaimed as he bolted into the room. "Honey, how many times have I told you not to use fire jutsus to cook?" He said, words now directed at Emiko's mother.
"Um...twice?" Emiko's mother replied sheepishly, her figure still obscured by the dark smoke. "Eek!! The cabinet's on fire! The roof probably is too!! NOW I'M ON FIRE!!!! Somebody get some water!!!" Her figure scrambled around in circles, bumping into furniture and falling on the floor. She and her long black hair was finally visible, and it was true; her clothes were burning. "Water!!"
"Sayo," Emiko's father spoke patiently. "You also have a water affinity, remember?" Sayo stopped struggling and pulled herself up, hair still in flames.
"Oh yeah...Water Style: Supurasshu!" She did a handsign and put out the fire. Wiping a hand across her sooty forehead, she sighed of relief.
Emiko's father walked over to her mother. "Sweetie..." He grumbled, placing a hand on his wife's shoulder. "Do you know how much it costs to repair a burnt kitchen?"
"I'm sorry?" She squeaked.
"Sorry doesn't cut it!" He roared, a blood vessel was seen pulsing on his forehead.
"Whaaaa!!! I'm sorry Takeshi!" Streams of tears ran down her face comically. She was sitting cross-legged on the slightly burnt floor, wiping her face. Impervious to the crying, Takeshi continued.
"Just because we are the heads of a noble family doesn't mean we're made of mon-" Emiko faded into the background, drowning out the voices of her parents.
"Look... guys-" Emiko tried but was cut off with a "What do you want?!" from her father, which silented her. She sighed and walked over to the now burnt kitchen of her family and glanced around to see if any food even survived the fire. The refrigerater looked like a cat coughed out a giant hair ball, the cupboards were no where to be found, probably ashes by now, and the snacks supply was much too overcooked. There was canned food, somewhat still alive, and she took some for herself. It was already warm from the fire so she just popped open the can and began devouring canned peaches.
