"Elliot, come with me. The rest of you, continue looking for the bones, please." The pack members nodded and turned around, continuing their search. Alpha Porter gave me a bewildered glance, probably surprised that I was not immediately sending out search parties to look for a killer. Normally I would send out at least one, but if this was the work of who I thought it was, a search party would be unnecessary at this point.
I ignored the alpha's stare and simply turned around, heading back to the pack house with Elliot in tow. I carefully inspected the silver bullet, trying to read what was written, but the blood was in the way. I sighed, annoyed.
"This is a troublesome development." I announced quietly, thinking out loud.
"Yes, it is. The fact that that rogue knew that Alpha Porter was on our land, and decided to kill him now is very worrisome indeed..." El replied, clicking a pen he took out of his front pocket.
"That could mean that this was a planned attack. A very meticulously planned attack, as a matter of fact. The attacker had to know before-hand that the alpha would be coming, and plan to get an evaporating gun. I assume this rogue was simply a pawn; if the gun was enchanted to disappear, it was presumed that the pawn would be killed. But the question is, how did the mastermind know that Alpha Porter was coming instead of one of his men?" I pondered this situation, steadily walking up the stairs and to the bathroom. Elliot followed closely behind, voicing his own thoughts.
"By the alpha's explanation, the King and Queen should've been the only ones who knew it was Alpha Porter's pack that was helping us. They did not announce this at the meeting. And while the Queen is not a very...active ruler, she would not betray her mate in any way. So, does that leave the alpha's pack members?"
"That seems probable." We reached the bathroom and I took my gloves off, picking up the bullet and carefully washing it under the water.
"The sink is red now." My beta commented, fixing his glasses just a bit. I shrugged nonchalantly.
"It was bound to happen sooner or later. I guess it was sooner rather than later, however..." I murmured offhandedly, already focusing on the inscriptions on the bullet. "Hmm.." I leaned back and let out a long sigh.
"What is it?" El asked, curious at my reaction. I wordlessly handed him the bullet. He carefully picked it up, squinting at the tiny writing on it.
"The Game Resumes." He read aloud. His eyes widened and he looked up at me quickly, realization dawning on him. "He's alive? I thought he would have died in that fire...aaand you already knew that he survived." Elliot narrowed his eyes upon seeing my half-hearted shrug.
"I didn't ascertain that he died; I couldn't for sure. The body was never found, remember? So knowing him for as long as I did, I have to admit there was a suspicion that he survived. That hunter is as slippery and sly as a snake. How do you think he became so infamous, even as a human, a 'lesser being'?" I replied, walking past my beta and to my office. Before shutting the door, I addressed Elliot, who was still standing in the bathroom with the bullet in his hand.
"Put that bullet in a safe spot for now; we will bring this up to the King. Also, one...three..four of our wolves are out right now, correct?" He nodded and I continued. "Send out another party, and go with them. I want to hurry up and find these stupid remains. Take three people, preferably only one who is a powerful fighter. If there is an attack on our base, I would rather have most of our brawn here."
"Yes, Miss." He briskly started towards the stairs as I shut the door, heading towards my desk.
I opened my laptop- or rather, the previous alpha's laptop- slowly typing in a url. I still haven't completely memorized where all the keys are, but I am definitely better than I was a month ago. Perhaps if I practiced more than twice a week I would improve faster. I clicked enter and the website loaded to a black page, with white words simply asking for a password.
"Cross." I said aloud. The black background immediately turned green. Impressive, yet a bit alarming. The password was voice activated, meaning that the covens were already aware of my voice. It was probably due to their leader, Tarragon's head, employing me, but it was still unsettling. Witches have adapted so well to this technological age, I'm sure that if they wanted to take over the world, they very well could.
The page changed, loading to an Amazon-like format. I scrolled through the items, searching for a beige potion. Upon finding it, I checked the price and followed the instructions on how to pay. Setting twenty dollars only the keyboard of the laptop, I clicked the "Buy" button. The money disappeared into a cloud of dust, and in it's place was the potion. I set it aside for now, opening my brand new email account. Annie had decided that since I was an alpha, it would be only natural for me to have my own email. I begrudgingly followed her advice, a little irked that such an action was even necessary.
I composed an email addressed to the King. Ha, how amazing: you can now speak to the royal overseer of werewolves with the simple push of a button.
Hello your Highness,
A situation has arose. Please form a meeting with the alphas as soon as possible. I know who the "Man of the East" is.
Sincerely,
Alpha Cross
