How I Overcome Writer's Block
By: FluffyBunny
First of all I gotta say....WRITER'S BLOCK SUCKS! Plain and simple. It sucks. Nobody likes it. Nobody wants it. And I'm pretty sure I might hate it more than I hate purple jelly beans! (And I seriously hate purple jelly beans....they are EVIL...just saying.)
I know I've been cursed with 'The Block' when after an hour of staring at a blank word screen on my laptop, I've realized that I have hit the backspace button so many times that my finger is now imprinted in it! After that I usually swear at that blinking line on my blank paper for about five minutes straight before slamming the screen shut...yeah, my laptop is tough considering I do that about once every other week.
I then scream loudly to whoever is in the room with me at the time (usually my boyfriend) that, "I AM NEVER WRITING AGAIN!" then I stomp off, slam a few doors and pout.
Once I'm done with my little hissy fit then I calmly open my laptop back up and force myself to write the chapter...it usually starts to come out crappy but after continuous writing, magically, it all starts to come together and starts to flow like I like it. Once I'm done I go back and fix the beginning to make sure that it doesn't sound forced and stuff.
That almost always works for me and on the rare times that it doesn't then I do the next best thing for me. I write a oneshot. Once I write one of those then my mind is just in the right place and I can go straight to the chapter that I was having so much trouble on.
Well..there you have it! That is how I overcome my writer's block. It also helps to just go into a room by yourself. No TV or people talking to you. Maybe put on some music and just....write.
Hope this helps someone to overcome their own writer's block!
