I looked out the window as i listened to my mum's old boring music. As the slow words drained into my eyes, i lost sight of what was going on. "i wonder how many horses there is? What will the people be like? What about the teachers? I wonder what my horse will be like..." i thought to myself as i stared at the window, my eyes following the trees on either side of the road. It was like the road was never ending. It just kept on going on, and on.
We finally pulled into the driveway of High River Horse Academy. I took off my seatbelt and leaned forwards, looking around. "Lily! Put your seatbelt back on silly! We haven't stopped yet." Said mum laughing. I clipped my seatbelt back in and looked at the trees on either side of the gravel road. Through the trees, you could make out the shapes of horses grazing in lush green fields.
"This will be where you will stay. You will have another girl your age staying in here too. Her name is Emma and she isn't getting here till tomorrow but she is a lovely girl, i'm sure you will get along well." Said Mrs Braid, who would be my english teacher at the academy. I looked at her shor hair, cut at her shoulders, dark brown. Her eyes were hazel and she was quite short, standing at about 5'3. I put down my bags and started unpacking. The room was reasonably big. It had two single beds on either side of the room, next to the entrance. Then at the end of the room, was the bathroom. At the end of our beds was a closet each and two study desks.
"So, i will show you around first, then i'll introduce you to your horse." Said Mrs Braid as we walked out of the dorm and outside. I smelt the fresh air as we walked. "Barn a, is to your right as you can see." Said Mrs Braid, pointing to her right. I looked at the stable. It looked like a barn/stable. It had a barn look to it, but a row of stalls. Down the isle was clean and i could faintly see the horses name plates ingraved on their stall doors. "And to your left, is Barn b. There is 2 barns, and too many paddocks," said Mrs Braid, giggling. We continued walking and we walked up a lane way with huge 75x75 square paddocks on either side. After we passed 2 paddocks, there was two jumping arena on either side. "So, here is the two show jump arenas, they are both used for lessons, you cannot ride in them unless your having a lesson." After another few paddocks, we stopped again, there were another two show jumping arenas. "These two are arenas that you can use anytime, but there can only be a max of 4 riders, so if they are both full, you might want to go for a trial or something instead. We walked for a little longer, and took a right turn, there was the typical australian bush. "Here is the trials, there is signs along the way so you dont get lost, and if you take the left turn, it will take you to the cross country track."
As we entered barn b, i breathed in the fresh air of horse, hay, tack, and just more horses. I began to speed up, excited to meet my new best friend. "So, here we have Avalon.. She is Holly's horse, so you may want to be careful as she can be a little... well.. snobby.." Said Mrs Braid, scratching the back of her neck. I nodded, then looked at the horse next to it, Sweetie. "And, thats Sweetie, she will be your horse while your here." Said Mrs Braid. I smiled and slid open her sliding door, entering her stable and giving her a pat. She was a dapple grey mare around 16.2hh. "Sweetie is a Quarter Horse x Thoroughbred, she is 6 years old and her show name is High River Sweet Inspiration."
