Chapter 2
What do I do? I panic, quickly putting Julie on speed dial. "Julie! Julie!" I scream when she picks up.
"Dude, where's the fire?" Julie drawls out. "You're acting like you're about to die or something."
"I am at the brink of death! The guy just texted me but I have no idea who he is or what to say!" I stop to catch my breath.
Immediately, Julie perks up. "You actually gave him your number?"
"Um, yeah?"
"Oh, okay. Well, I guess you could always text him back with 'hi'? Then you won't have to think up of something to say." Julie advises.
"Yeah, why didn't I think of that?" I muse. "You are brilliant, Julie! Thanks!"
"Jules! C'mon!" I hear an annoyingly high squeaky voice call. No doubt the voice of Grace McCartney, who is so full of herself that she thinks she's related to Paul McCartney. I mean, are you kidding me?
"Oh, sorry. That's the devil. I neve knew she was related to the Peters. And turns out, George Peters is a six year-old." Julie says. "Not the hot, teenage boy I was hoping for."
"Wow," I respond. "Good luck surviving the night."
"Yeah." Julie sulks. "And, tell me what happens between you two." She adds before hanging up.
I turn back to the text. The word "hi" seems to grow larger and larger as I try to think of something to say. I'll just do what Julie said.
"Hi." I text back. "What's up?"
Guy: "Hey, nothing much. Just chillin'. You?"
Me: "Umm, checking Instagram."
Indeed, I open the Instagram app and start liking all of Julie's photos. She posts like, twenty photos a day. If you don't think that's a lot, you must be insane.
Guy: "Speaking of...what's your instagram account? :D"
Me: "Uh, kind of personal."
I bite my nails nervously as I wait for his reply.
Guy: "Oh, that's okay. I never took the chance to introduce myself, so it might seem weird anyway. My name's Hunter and I'm seventeen years old. I live in Farland, which is in Oregon."
Hm. A junior like me. I live in Farland, but the town's so small there's only one high school. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone named Hunter...
Me: "What a coincidence. I live in Farland too, I guess that's how you know me. Do you go to Farland High? Because I've never heard of any Hunter's there haha."
Hunter: "I go to an independent school :)."
Me: "That makes much more sense now."
Hunter: "Yeah, I never wanted to go to independent school :/ It's just that my parents want me to get a good education."
Me: "I actually want to go to independent school. Public school is way too easy."
Hunter: "I guess. So I assume you go to Farland High? ;)."
Me: "Yeah, I do."
Hunter: "Do you by any chance know someone named Chance?"
Me: "Chance Stephens?"
Hunter: "Yeah." He confirms.
Me: "He's my ex-boyfriend." I reply bluntly. I was so stupid when I was a freshman anyway. Just like all the the other girls, I fell for his good looks and charming smile. But just like any other player, he gets with a girl for a day then throws them away like trash.
