Breathe. Take a deep breath Maddie. I thought to myself. My eyes were locked on the eggshell white painted door. The door seemed to tempt me to open its shiny gold handle and see who my roommate was.

Slowly my hand graced upon the door knob, sending a tingle to my fingers. I took another deep breath and opened the door.

A petite girl with dirty blonde hair was sitting on the bed across the room. She turned around and smiled, revealing pink braces and a tan complexion.

"Hi, you're Maddie right? I'm Sasha." Her voice was calming and sweet. Just what I needed to hear.

"Yes! Nice to meet you too. Is that a French bun?"

Sasha nodded and continued braiding her hair. She was actually very nice and polite. I didn't like roommates who were loud and jumpy, and kept me up at night.

"Is this your first year?" Sasha asked me. She smoothed our her light purple blanket and sat down on the trundle bed.

"Yes, I'm nervous! How about you?"

I decided to do the same and get my blankets out. I had a trundle bed identical to hers, only across the room. My pale pink vera Bradley comforter made me think of my mom, and I instantly missed home. It was a going away gift to me.

"Third year. You'll love it here. We have dance classes, and singing. Acting too. It doesn't get much better!" We both giggled.

I was excited to take the summer off and have a change of pace for once. I'd be competing against different people, and have to challenge myself.

The broadway show they were doing this year was The Little Mermaid. My absolute favorite musical. Paige and I used to see it whenever we were in New York City.

"Who will you be auditioning for?" I prayed that she didnt say Ariel when I asked her. She was my only friend so far, and I didn't want to lose her over competition.

"Arista. The oldest sister! I could see you playing Ariel, Maddie. Even though I haven't even seen you dance or act yet!" Sasha gushed.

"Thanks! That's what I'd love to do. What time do we have to be at Opening theatre class?"

Sasha scanned through the schedule. I had one too, but I didn't feel like getting it.

"Twenty minutes. You'll love the theatre teachers!"

I hoped I would.

During christmas break, my mom had been scanning talent agencies on line. An ad popped up for AlphaOmega Academy, and she found out that it was the top of the line arts school.

I instantly applied, and was thankfully granted access. The wait was worth it though. Really, I'm most nervous to see my competition.

"Are the other kids very talented?" I said to Sasha.

She wildly shook her head. "Very talented. Talk about child prodigies."

Just what I wanted to hear..

"Would you like me to show you how to get to the theatre?" She glanced at the clock above our door. Five minutes.

"Sure! Just let me change quickly."

I tossed on a floral dress, tan toms and a white scarf. My hair could just stay curled for now.

Sasha led me down a large hallway filled with dorm's modeled exactly like ours. Finally the hallway curved right and left. She explained that the dance classes all were on the right wing and that singing and acting was on the left.
