Coffee was the only thing on my mind as I walked out of the bookstore I worked in. Seven hours of dusting, reorganising and tedious questions took a lot out of you so before heading home I detoured slightly to grab a coffee.
I stepped inside Costa, the warmth of the room a shock to my body after the bitter cold of winter weather outside. Walking quickly to the counter I ordered a skinny latte and handed over the money before stepping back to wait for my coffee to be made. I jumped forward again quickly when I felt my foot land on someone else's. Before I thought of appropriate words I began babbling out an apology, "I am SO sorry, I didn't mean to step on yo-".
"It's fine, honest" the man said with a giggle and a smile.
I blushed slightly as my eyes met his, not that I could see his eyes. Oh no, he was wearing white out contacts, which actually suited him. He shifted slightly and I mentally cursed myself after realising I had been admiring his eyes longer than I had thought.
With a smile he walked past me and grabbed two cups of coffee that were now ready. "Join me?" He asked, motioning to a table behind him.
I stuttered quickly before forming words, words which I again mentally cursed myself for when I realised the words were declining his offer.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked" he said before turning round and leaning on the table in front of the drinks. Moments later he turned round and handed me mine. "See you around" he said, before walking out.
I felt so awful, he was so kind and I just rejected him and I didn't mean to and why can I never make the right move. "Go Toni" I whispered to myself sarcastically under my breath.
After straightening myself out I headed for the exit and once I was back outside again I was hit by the cold, that, bitter chill on the wind, blowing the occasional piece of rubbish across the deserted street. I took a sip of coffee before waking hurriedly towards my apartment.
I got inside my building and put the coffee along with my bag down on the floor in search of my keys. With numb hands, unlocking the door was quite an achievement but I wasted no time on trivial things, I headed straight inside. Gulping the last bit of my coffee I went to throw away the cup when I noticed writing. Writing that I had taken ages to notice. Writing I know I should have noticed prior to getting home. Writing which read:
Call me sometime, Josh (Balz)
Followed by a mobile number.
"YES!" I yelled. "YESYESYESYESYES" I continued. Not only does this mean I might actually be able to see him again but surely that he likes me?
