Something was wrong. The fairy tail guild, usually filled with laughter and yelling and things breaking, was dead silent. The reason for this was just behind the door to the infirmary, Freed Justine was only just clinging to life with the help of the healer Porlyusica. It had been the result of a mission gone wrong. The thunder legion were hired to capture a poison mage who had been attacking a village. Unfortunately they had been ambushed from behind and Freed was the only one to notice the Mage. He hadn't had time to right any runes so used himself as a human shield to protect the other three. A deadly poison had been injected into his body. In pure rage Laxus beat the shit out of the man who dared hurt his best friend. They brought him back to fairy tail hoping Porlyusica could help him. That had been three days ago, and Freed's condition was only getting worse. Porlyusica told them that the this type of poison would kill him in a couple of days, if they were lucky a week, if she didn't find a cure. Time was of the essence.

"Oi shrimp, maybe you should take a break," Gajeel suggested to Levy who had spent the past three days going through book after book on antidotes as well as healing spells and potions.
"I can't afford to take a break, with every minute that passes brings Freed closer too..." She couldn't say it, no one could.
Gajeel kept on a unreadable face, but inside he was just as worried as Levy. He didn't know Freed as well as she did, but he was a member of fairy tail, and therefore his family. There's no way in hell he'd ever say that out loud though. Others though were having trouble hiding there worry and fear.
"Dammit," it was just above a whisper, but in the quiet guild hall it was heard by everyone.
The speaker was the ice wizard with a striping habit Grey Fullbuster.
"Dammit," he said again only a little louder.
"Why? What did Freed do to deserve this?!"
Grey had lost his home, his family and his master Ur, now he was losing a friend.
"Grey, calm down," Erza basically ordered him.
"Calm down? Our friend is dying and you want me to calm down?!"
"I'm sure Porlyusica will be abel to find a cure," there was a hint of uncertainty in her voice.
Grey, reluctantly taking her advice, tried to calm himself knowing arguing with her wouldn't help anyone.
"I'm sorry for losing my temper. I just feel so useless just sitting here."
"You're not the only one Grey," Cana said absolutely sober for once.
"By the way, you're clothes."
Lucy, who sat next to Cana, let her eyes travel to the infirmary door. Sitting at the table next to it were Bixlow, Evergreen and Laxus, the thunder legion. At least most of it. It was odd seeing them without their green haired captain. Lucy knew how they must have felt, she'd gone through this before when her mother was sick.
Please Freed, please live she silently pleaded.
" What if he doesn't make it?"
If the guild could get any quieter it just did. Surprisingly enough it had been Wendy the youngest member of fairy tail who had spoken up.
" How could you say that?!" Natsu said angrily.
" Of course he's going to make it, this is Freed we're talking about!" Even as he said this he couldn't stop the tears from rolling down.
" He's gotta make it."
In the past three days, despite the situation, everyone had managed to keep they're cool. Not anymore though. Juvia fell to her knees and hid her face in her hands and sobbed. Max knelt next to her and hugged her letting his own tears fall. Lissana turned to her sister.
" Mira, do you think Freed is going to be okay?" She asked quietly so only her siblings Mira and Elfman could hear.
" To be honest Lissana, I don't know," the barmaid answered. Elfman looked over to Evergreen an started heading over to her. He sat down next to her.
" What do you want you big oaf?" She said annoyedly trying to hide her worry.
Ignoring her question he simply held onto her as he cried.
" A real man cries when his heart aches."
Then Evergreen started crying, then Bixlow, everyone, even Gajeel was having a hard time holding back the waterworks. Everyone was heartbroken and needed to let out all the emotions they'd been keeping at bay. Everyone except Laxus. He didn't cry. He doesn't know why but he just didn't, he wanted to but couldn't.
" Laxus."
Laxus turned to face his grandfather Makarov.
" Come," he motioned for him to follow him into the infirmary he'd just exited.
Laxus didn't hesitate. He wanted to see Freed, his teammate, his captain, his friend, the man he'd managed to fall in love with. What he saw made his heart stop and his blood run cold. Freed was lying in bed breathing heavily, his vines had gone black, the skin around them a light purple, his face was twisted in pain. Laxus hated seeing him like that. He sat in the chair next to Freed's bed and held his hand tightly, afraid that if he were to let go Freed would slip away forever. That's when he started crying. When he saw just how badly this was affecting Freed.
" I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." He felt guilty for what had happened, like he could've done something to help him, but he wouldn't dwell on the past. All that matters right now was Freed's survival. Makarov put a hand on his grandson's shoulder crying with him. Porlyusica had been watching from the other side of the bed. As much as she hated humans, she hated seeing them so mournful even more (and that's saying something). The rest of the guild entered to see Freed, their dear friend, in such a pityful state broke what was left of there hearts.
" Please," Laxus whispered," get better soon."

Two days ago everyone in fairy tail got to see their friend Freed and how ill he was, and he had only gotten worse. Porlyusica had told them there might be a way to save him. There was a flower that only grew on Mt Hakuba, thats pollen could cure any poison. Team Natsu and the thunder legion were the ones sent to gather the plant. They had returned only a few hours ago and they could only hope that they had made it in time. Everyone one was on edge, Juvia was holding Wendy, both bluenetts trying to hold back their tears. Laxus was sitting at the bar with Makarov. He could see the worry in his grandson's eyes.
" Freed's strong Laxus, he'll make it."
I hope I'm not lying.
" I know he's strong but..."
" Just have hope Laxus."
At that moment Porlyusica came out of the infirmary. Everyone tensed, afraid of what was to come, preying that Freed was alive and not...
The hall was so quite you cold hear a pin drop.
" He's going to be fine, but it'll take him a few days to fully recover." Everyone left out the breath they'd been holding.
" He's awake if you want to see him."
No one even hesitated. Freed's vanes were no longer black, but he was as pale as a ghost and had bags under his eyes.
" Hey guys," Freed said weakly. Happiness filled there hearts. Levy, Wendy, Happy, Natsu, Bixlow and Evergreen jumped on him, hugging half to death.
" I... Can't... Breath..."
" Don't ever scare us like that again!" Evergreen cried hugging him tighter.
" Yeah, e thought we were going to lose you!" Happy added.
" Okay, okay, I won't," he said placing a hand on the exceed's head. The others let go of him and hopped of the bed.
" So, how are you feeling?" Macoa asked him.
" To be honest, I feel like I got hit by a train."
" Consider yourself lucky Freed," Porlyusica said.
" You barely survived, in fact your heart stopped for a full five minutes till it started beating again."
If Freed could get any paler then he just did.
" Well, you look good for a zombie," Lucy joked trying to lighten the mood.
Freed's smile returned.
" The front page of the sorcerer weekly ' Freed the Dark returns from the dead'" Natsu said as he jumped onto the bed.
" Has a ring to it," Bixlow said, his tongue hanging out.
" Ring to it. Ring to it," his dolls echoed.
They all laughed.
" Well I'm glad your back," Laxus said sitting down next to Freed.
" We all are."
He placed a hand on the rune wizard's shoulder. They smiled at each other. The others, even Porlyusica, all thought
just kiss already!
" Sorry if I made you all worry, how can I make it up to you?"
" Get better soon!" They yelled at him.
It brought a smile to his face to see how much his friends, no, his family cared for him.
" I promise I will."
