The hall was stunning. Every wall was covered in some sort of decoration. There were pumpkins, skeletons, brooms and candles. We stand amazed at the turn out and the decorations before swiftly moving forward.
We find a place in the corner to watch before we join in.
"This is incredible!!" Sofia exclaims.
"I know right?!" I say raising my voice to be heard.
"Well what are we waiting for? Lets find partners and go and dance!" Chantelle states while asking the guy next to us to dance. Sofia rolls her eyes. Typical Chantelle.
Just then a guy wearing a three piece suit with a dark and light purple striped tie approaches us.
"Hello, there. May I have the honour of having the next dance with you?" he asks while extending his arm towards Sofia. She looks to me for conformation. I nod.
"I would like that very much." Sofia says taking his arm and heading out onto the dance floor.
As I begin to feel slightly awkward standing here by myself. Just as I'm thinking that a tall, dark haired guy walks determinedly towards me. He stops directly in front of me a bows slightly. He's wearing a black button-down shirt, black dress trousers, black formal shoes, and a tie that's shade of red matches my dress. His mask is black, red, gold and it shimmers in the light giving his ears an eerie light.
"M'lady, would you do me the extreme honour of dancing the next dance with me?"
I stood staring. There was something off about him, but he was being the perfect gentleman and boy was he hot!
Mystery man cleared his voice and held his arm out. "Are you coming?"
I flushed with embarrassment. "Yes. I'll dance with you." I got out, taking his arm.
"Wonderful. Let's go then."
He leads me out onto the dance floor, manoeuvring me carefully around the other couples lining up. We end up near an end of the huge hall and we take up a waltz position.
The music starts drifting through the hall and we all start dancing. I'm not the best dancer in the world, but my partner manages to compensate for that and it feels like were gliding through the other couples.
"You are a beautiful dancer." He compliments me.
"I think that you are doing more work than me."
"That is not true!"
"You know it is. You just want to save your toes from any injury."
"I am offended you would even think that."
"Well I don't know you, do I"
"That's the point of a masquerade. You are not supposed to know who's hiding behind this beautiful mask." He smiles
"True, true. But beautiful?" I tease.
"You're really testing it aren't you?" He looks at me through the corner of his eye.
"I was feeling bored." I shrug. I looked around and realised that even more people had joined in and that we'd soon be running out of space. I looked again and there were more. I also realised that we seemed to be moving at a faster pace than those around us. Curious.
To my surprise the dance ended. "I hadn't realised it'd been that long." I commented.
"Time flies when you're having fun." He smirks at me.
"Will I see you again?"
"Missing me already?"
"What! No! I was just being polite!"
"Mhmm."
I glare at him. He, although gorgeous, has already brought out the slightly more feisty side to me. I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
The music gradually slows down and we come to a halt. I curtsy and he bows.
"Don't worry, you'll see me again and you better save me another dance." He says cheekily, before disappearing into the crowd.
I follow him with my eyes, but he soon disappears amongst the throng of people. I strangely find myself missing him already...
