Randolph jerked upright in his bed. Beads of sweat dotted his face.

Something was tugging at the back of his mind, something he forgot...only to remember again a few seconds later. It took him a while to realize – Cthulhu was inside his mind!

His left arm jerked up, reaching for the latch on the window. The window was opening like the mouth of a deadly predator! It then became apparent that it was easier for Cthulhu to kill an enemy than to erase his memory...

His memory...

Randolph Carter (named after his Granddad) signed up to the Miskatonic University in 1992...found the Necronomicon, written by the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, in a hidden room at the back of the university library...read of the puniness of our entire human race compared to the Great Old Ones, who were imprisoned on Earth as the planet was forming, by the Elder Gods, genetically changing their minds so that the sight of Star Stones rendered them unable to move...and now he remembered the chant, also implanted into the minds of the Great Old Ones, to tear at their brains...

"Y'AI 'NG'NGAH, YOG-SOTHOTH H'EE-L'GEB F'AI THRODOG UAAAH!!!" The alien words were hard to pronounce, but it seemed to work, as Cthulhu was forced out of his mind. At this point Randolph was teetering on his window sill, swaying left and right, about to fall to the hard stone pavement below. One cautious step backwards ensured his safety. He flopped onto his bed, more sweat clouding his face.

Randolph's colleague burst into his bedroom. "Are you mad!?" he demanded, "are you trying to kill yourself? What were you doing?"

Randolph grinned weakly. "just getting some fresh air" he joked. " you wouldn't believe me if I told you." He rolled over and went to sleep, ignoring his confused partner.
