The Field

I immediately found myself laying in a field, yellow grasses rising up beside me. I sit up, feeling a sharp pain sent through my head. I reach up and touch it, and blood trickles down my fingers. I cringe, remembering what had just happened. Carry had just shot me, right in the head. I was so confused, how did this happen?

The loud boom from the gunshot makes me cringe, as it does every time. Every time it reminds me of Jas. I glance around to see who was shot as blood spattered all over my jacket. "No!" I scream, as I realize it was Skylar. She falls down next to me, and the next second she is gone. I look all around the food court, hoping to see her, or at least something. Exactly to my expectations, I saw nothing, except the faint image of her pounding in the back of my mind. I could have saved her. I really could have. But, I didn't.

          *Skylar's Point of View*

I had finally been able to get up after twenty minutes of continuous trying. In the distance, I saw an older woman, late 70's maybe. She was looking at me. Staring at me. She tilted her head. Her eyes beckoned be over to her. My leather jacket my dad had granted to me was still smeared with the innards of the waitress from Auntie Ann's pretzels.

I very cautiously started to meander the woman's way. She smiled an old crooked smile. I had reached her, and gingerly, she laid her hand on my forehead, right atop the gunshot. It disappeared.

Then I realized, I was shot in the head. How was I here? Am I dead?

"Who- what are you?" I asked.

"Zuriel," she replied.

"Zur-a-what?" I asked.

"I am Zuriel, an angel of the lord. The angel of harmony to be exact," she said calmly.

"Oh, um..." I say kind of worried. "I'm dead aren't I?"

"Far from it," she announces. "Very much alive."

"So... angel? On earth?"

"Exactly. We are in northern Virginia somewhere I believe," she answered.

"Well, nice chat," i turn away before something happens and I actually die this time I halt. "Wait, how am I not dead?? That demon chick shot me in the head! There is something so wrong with this."

"Well, I was hoping you'd say that. I didn't think you were stupid enough not to, But when you started walking away I got a little worried. I'm glad you said something," she says, clearly stalling.

"Just answer my dang question angel lady!" I shout.

"That's no way to talk to an angel. But hey, angel's an angel's an angel."

"What the heck does that mean!" I yelled, becoming more and more frustrated by the second.

"You really want to know?" She asked, and for the first time a cheesy smirk spread across her face.

"Yes," I say, trying not to become a hothead, or at least a bigger one than Jared.

"Are you sure?" She presses on.

I broke. "Nope. I have no desire to know why I'm not dead after being shot in the head. Let me just say, you cause an awful lot of mischief for being the angel of harmony," I say with a very clear sarcastic tone.

Zuriel tilted her head with a confused look on her face. "A few seconds ago, you were yelling at me saying you wanted to know, now your saying you don't? I'm puzzled..."

"Sarcasm Zuriel. Sarcasm. I want to know why I didn't die," I say.

"Okay," she says still clearly confused. "Do you want me to put it bluntly? Or something else?"

"As blunt as possible," I reply.

"You are an angel," she says as bluntly as she can.

"What?!?" I stand there dumbfounded.

"You said blunt. I gave you blunt."

"Wha- how- why?" I say, overwhelmed with emotions.

"You are an angel. Do you want the whole story?" She asks, clearly concerned about my preferences for some odd reason.

"Yes I want the whole story!!" I yell, and afterward realizing how rude I sound, although it didn't matter at this point.

"Well..." she paused. A tear escaped from her eye.
