her breath was a deep cloud of smoke, washing away anything left of the old cinnamon taste that had lingered in her mouth for weeks after. her tears were trails down her cheeks, leading nowhere but to a field of her broken thoughts.
she had tried so hard to keep the smoke from her breath, she had tried so hard to hold onto the taste of the other girls lips on hers. but she wasn't strong, so here she was- behind her house surrounded by shattered glass and cigarette buds. the tears running down her cheeks and off her chin were like acid, reminding her of everything.
her mother had said this is what happened, this is what happened to girls who didn't follow gods wishes. that she'd see her in hell someday. those thoughts seemed to echo through her vast mind, her name repeating itself.
emerald.
her name matched her haunting eyes, the green matched her perfectly- she was the brightest girl in the world. she used to say she belonged in the emerald city.
emerald.
she wasn't in hell, her mother was wrong. she was dancing in the emerald city. she was waiting.
