My eyes fluttered open, reading the clock that said 11am. I began to wonder how I ended up in my bed...
Then, last nights events came rushing back into my head. Me and Jake had been watching a movie in the den while my parents were in the living room. I had fallen asleep while watching Dear John and Jake had carried me from the den, up the large staircase and into my room. Everything after that was black because I had fallen asleep.
Too tired to get up I turned over with my eyes shut. I smelled the familiar scent of his cologne and my eyes shot open, expecting to see his staring right at me with hair in his face. But, it was empty and he was nowhere to be found.
I pulled the covers off my bed and made my way downstairs where I began to search for him. Nowhere.
I grabbed a glass and a bowl so I could get something to eat and drink before I went on a long hunt for him.
"Still coming down in the morning without combing your hair I see." The deep voice surprised me because I was deeper than Jake's but still lighter than my father's. This voice was laced with a thick Irish accent.
"Caiden." I said, turning around to look at the boy that leaned against the doorway. He was fairly tall, standing at 6'0" if I had to guess. His red-brown hair swooped infront of his face, obviously naturally straight and cooperative.
"Your parents let me in. I missed you over the year." Caiden was the only person I found friendship with on this island.
I saw him once a year for a month or so, depending on how long we stayed. He was my secret friend that lived on the island with his father whom studied the organisms that lived here.
I walked over to him and put my arms around him, feeling his warm embrace. "I missed you too." I said and I heard the kitchen door open and close just in time to see Jake enter.
"Jake, this is Caiden."
