Chapter 9
It had been two days since I had seen Jake. He wasn't at the fair, his phone was shut off, and his mom always said he was busy when I went over. I needed to see him because it was killing me, not being able to see the boy I had started getting feelings for. But maybe....he lied when he claimed he liked me. No, I couldn't think like that, I needed to get away from all of this which would mean going to the fair. Alone. I've never gone without Jake and I really didn't want to. But, I knew I had to so I got in my car and went.
I walked into the gates of fair and walked around, eating cotton candy, deep fried Oreos, and played some games. I finally made my way over to the soccer team's kissing booth and saw Jake, sitting in the place I left him.
I slid a 10 to him and looked at him. “ One dollar- Kiss on the cheek. Two Dollars- kiss on the lips. Five dollars- make out. Ten dollars- I need to talk to you.” I said, looking at him with a small smile. I was sure he would get a fill-in but then his words made my heart twist.
“Sorry, we don't accept anything more than a five. And, I'm working. Bye.” Jacob said, sliding the 10 back across the counter. I ran before it even reached my fingertips. I couldn't believe this! I ran straight into Trey, making me stumble back. “I'm sorry.” I said, not realizing I had been crying.
“Woah, its fine. Whats wrong?” He asked me, pulling me into a hug.
“J-Jake won't talk to me! He hates me!” I cried into his chest as he stroaked my hair. He then led me back to the soccer team's 'circle'. Jake wasn't working the booth anymore but he completely ignored me! He didn't even glance to see who the crying girl was that was with Trey! Coach looked at me and Jake, obviously knowing something wasn't right. I shook my head as I burst into more tears, hating the way he ignored me like he was ashamed and didn't know me.
“Jacob.” Coach said and all three boys with that name turned their heads. “Carson, get your ass over here.” He said in a stern, military like voice.
Jake POV
“Yeah, coach?” I asked, wondering why the hell he was getting so pissy with me. I mean, seriously?
“Would you like to explain why that younglady over there is bawling her eyes out?” He asked with a stare full of hatred.
“I-I wouldn't let her talk to me and I refused to see her all week.” I told him, not meeting his eyes. I was surprised when he grabbed my shoulders and shook me violently. “Boy, you don't shut up about the girl, she kisses you, and you ignore her?! What the hell is wrong with you?!” He asked me, making me cringe.
“I'm sorry! I've gotta fix this...” I said and coach let my shoulders go so I could go over to Scout.
“Scoutie, I'm sorry I'm such a dick.” Was all I said and she just looked at me with teary eyes which made me pissed at myself for doing that to her.
Scout POV
I looked at Jake, tears still running down my face. “You are a dick.” I told him and then whispered, “But I have to forgive you.” His arms wrapped me into a hug and I heard most of the guys go into a chorus of 'Awwww' which only made Jacob flip them off.
“I love you, Jakey.” I told him, finally able to tell him how I felt without regretting it for some reason. He was silent for a moment but then his lips where pressed against mine. “Get a room!” I heard someone shout, but focused on the kiss that turned into us making out.
When it was dark we slipped out of the booth and walked around hand-in-hand. I felt great...better than ever. Nothing could ruin this moment.
I listened to the carnival music as we walked around. People literally stopped and stared, then started to txt the gossip. Jake led me over to the Ferris wheel which he knew I was scared to death of. “Please? Just once?” He pouted and after about 10 minutes of arguing I agreed. As we got higher I held onto him and hid my face in his shoulder. “Jake! Make it stop!” I said, moving closer to him as he laughed. “You're fine. Scout, it'll be alright.” He told me, wrapping his arm around me.
I felt the seat jerk forward. “Woah!” I heard him say, then another fast movement went by which made me involuntarily slide close to him.
“Help! The screws are coming undone!” I heard Jake yell as he held me tighter. I looked up at him and just then one of the lights exploded and I screamed, burying my face back into him. About five minutes later me and Jake were screaming as the cart held on by one last bolt that was coming undone but then...it popped out and the cart along with us fell onto the cold, hard ground.
“Scout!” Jacob yelled frantically as he shook me. “Stop.” I said in a whisper and he pulled me into a hug as people gathered around us, followed by an ambulance. I never wanted to see a farris wheel again! Never, Ever! NEVER!
Jake carried me to where the soccer team was and set me in a chair, then sat beside me. Instantly everyone was asking questions, even coach.
“Guys, chill. She's still scared. I think.” He paused and looked at me before he continued. “I got her to go on the farris wheel and the bolts came undone and our cart fell off it.” His voice was so calm it was unreal, mostly because he was faking the calmness. I knew it.
After an hour or so he borrowed Trey's truck and took me home, promising to swap vehicles tomorrow. He took me to my room and laid me down, then he laid next to me and remained like that all night long.
