Flightless: chapter 1

Chapter 1: Scootaloo's beginning

Scootaloo was born one stormy night in one of the most bustling cities in Cloudsdale, Los Pegasus. She came out as a small Pegasus with a violet mane and dark orange colored flank. "It's a girl." The doctor said while gently handing the now wrapped up filly to her parents. Her parents took her, and hugged her tightly. They looked at her, smiling. "She's beautiful!" Her mother, Willow Shimmer, exclaimed. " She's going to grow up to be an awesome flyer," Scootaloo's father, Sky Scorch,whispered to his wife. " I hope so." She replied in a soft and gentle tone while stroking the filly's soft and silky mane. "But...." She continued, "what are we going to name her?" She asked. Now, this was a question they couldn't answer. They had no idea what to name her. Sky Scorch thought hard. "What about something fast and swift? Like....maybe Breeze?" He asked after some hard thinking. Willow shook her head. " A breeze is not fast at all! That won't do! Maybe.... Scoot?" She replied back in a grave tone. "Hm....... a scoot is a little faster than a breeze. I think that would do. But, wouldn't it be awkward to have a filly just named 'Scoot?'" Sky Scorch said while taking another look at their cute little filly who was fast asleep. "Ok, ok! let's add something to the back of her name," Willow was starting to sound impatient. " What about.... Scootaloo? That sounds better. " Willow finally decided. "Scootaloo sounds fine to me! I'm ok with that name. " Sky scorch replied. " Well then, FINALLY! It's settled, our little filly's name shall be scootaloo!" Willow replied with an outburst of joy and hugged her husband and scootaloo at the same time. Sky scorch smiled and hugged them back. Soon, the doctor stepped into the hospital room to see the two parents taking turns to hug scootaloo. "Um....miss? The doctors have fully scanned and checked the filly. She's in good condition. I'm sure she'll grow up to be a good flyer!" The doctor said while holding a slip of paper. "Thank goodness nothing is wrong! We want her to become a great flyer. You see, our family is already quite poor, and after paying the hospital bills, I'm afraid we won't have many bits left. My husband and I are already trying to earn bits and provide for our family, but If our filly becomes a good flyer and joins some kind of team and performs stunts all around Equestria, I'm sure she could earn some bits too and help our family. " Explained Willow Shimmer while looking down at Scootaloo. However, the doctor wasn't really listening. He pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to Sky Scorch. "Another piece of good news," the doctor continued, " you are ready to be checked out of the hospital. You may tell us when you're ready. We will then guide you to the reception counter where you will pay the bits and then, you may go home with your little one. " He finished. The two pegasi nodded their heads. " We are ready now,"said Sky Scorch. They were led down many halls and finally reached the reception counter, where they paid. After saying thanks and goodbye to the nurses and doctor for their kindness and hospitality, they started to drive home, smiling, hugging and checking on Scootaloo all the way. They decided if that they wanted her to become a good, smart, and awesome flyer, they would have to be loving towards her, work hard to give her education, and give her the best.
