Steven's life had changed a lot since the morning he had befriended Rory. His mum had stopped bothering him to make friends. He was less of a freak at school (other kids still thought he looked creepy, especially when he smiled). He had also met Amelia and Mels, Rory's other friends, although Steven could tell that the two girls considered Rory more of a pest than a companion. The girls did think of Steven as their friend, though, because he wrote them stories.
The four friends, despite how different they were, all loved one thing: Doctor Who. Their favorite memories together were of watching old reruns, and later, when they got older, watching the TV movies. Steven would rewrite any episodes they didn't like, and he would put Amelia, Mels, Rory, and himself in as companions. He even made up an eleventh doctor who would have an older Amelia, Rory, and Mels as companions. They all knew that would never happen, though, as BBC had stopped making episodes with the eighth doctor. His friends always wondered why he never put himself in his stories; his reply was always that he couldn't write about himself very well.
Everything changed when Amelia turned seven, though. Some time after her birthday. She came to school one morning with the saddest expression on her face, as if she had gotten something amazing and then lost it, but couldn't understand why.
"Are you okay, Amelia? What's wrong?" Rory asked her.
"You don't look too good." Mels remarked.
"I-I don't want to talk about it just yet." Amelia said.
Steven's face stayed impassive, although Captain Kyle wished he could shape the Teselecta's mouth into an obnoxious smirk. It was obvious to the crew what had happened to young Amelia Pond last night: she had met the Doctor.
