Let me tell you something about me
But where should I start
Should I start from America or should I go back to my childhood or as I called Me
I was born in a country where nobody care about race or anything mainly because everyone was the same
But I grew up a country that was diverse
But no one ever asked me where I was from
No ever questioned my identity, my religion or my dress code either
Everyone accepted me as me and not what the social thought of me
I could go out in the middle of the night and I would not even worry about anything
By the age of 12 I was in charge of my entire family I would stay with my siblings when my mom is gone for over night trip
And yeah without babysitter or adult
Whenever, my mom had to leave she would just tell the family next door and the other one to keep an eye on us and we would be fine
Because instead of walls we had people around us
Before I even started high school I was old enough to take care of my family
I was a free young woman
I was never called a kid or a girl
Because I was either of those
By the time I finish middle school
I came to a place they call America
Everything has change
I was a baby again well a baby who was going high school
Everyone around me start questioning my identity, my religion, my dress code
Everyone start asking where I was born, where I was from
No one try to know me as who I am the real me instead they try to know me through others
I could not do anything I did was I was young by myself
By the age of 15,16 and 17 I was called a “Teenager” I was told to be depend on my parents
I was no longer me or young woman
But I was someone who people would look different and everyone would see me as a different person instead of the really me
I was no longer accepted as me
By the age of 16 my older sister start her own family yeah that's right she started her own family
And by the age of 17 I could not even go to the doctor without guarding
Just because she was in Africa and was adult
And I was in America and I was consider a teen
But this is me
This is my life
My story
Even though they are really two lives and two stories
Together they create they are mine
And I can proudly say these are my stories.
