Days passed by and I was kind of liking that place.
One fine afternoon I went out, to the place where dad was getting the trees cut. I saw him from a distance and he was talking to a short, fat man, Mr.Noris. He is my dad’s assistant. I ran closer to them,
“Dady!!” I had planned to scare him but it didn’t seem to work.
“Hey, what are doing here?” he asked.
“just playing around.”
A few minutes later, Mr.Noris came to talk to my dad.
“Excuse me, sir” he said, politely.
“Hmm…?” my dad replied, asking me to pause the story I had been telling him.
“We have found this while we were working. I thought maybe u could tell us what to do with it.”
Mr.Noris handed dad something which I couldn’t recognize. It was pear white, maybe 10-15 inches long, and covered with dust. I was thinking about what it could be when I heard dad say,
“It’s a….”
“human-bone.” Mr.Noris finished. “I guess , there was a grave somewhere here.”
“hmm…just throw it.”
“umm…but…ok, sir.” He left to follow the orders.
My dad turned towards me. “What’s wrong, dear?” it was then when I realized I was standing still looking in the direction Mr.Noris had gone. I looked at my dad. “it – it was – it – a – human bone?” I found myself stammering. Dad hugged me, “its ok, dear. Nothing to be afraid of. Now you go back home and tell mommy , dad will be home for lunch.”
I did as he said. But the sight of the creepy bone seemed to shake me up.
I sat in my room after lunch and tried to think of anything but the strange thing that happened with me today. I was looking out of the window, staring at the wood. When I heard a voice. It was the sound of someone crying in pain. A woman’s voice, but the unusual thing was it was coming from the woods.
I ran down to tell to my parents about it. They did listen to what I said, but didn’t seem to believe me.
“c’mon its time you should go to bed now” said my mom , as she stirred me up the stairs to my room.
“But mom. I’m not making this up. I swear, I heard a woman’s voice come from those woods.”
We had reached my room. And I lay in my bed.
“I know you are right, dear. Its just that you need some rest after what you saw today, ok?”
She gave me a goodnight kiss and turned to walk off the room. I lay there, curled up in my bed with Julie close to me. Hoping that what I had heard today was just my imagination.
