"how bad?" i heard my dad say.
"Um..104°C" my mom replied.
"Oh my god, that is too much, she was all well before she slept, wasnt she?"
"She was perfectly fine. i have no idea what went wrong. maybe we should call the doctor now."
"Hey mom, what's up?" i said, waking up. Mom and dad seemed to be worried. I tried sitting up but my mom wouldn’t let me. “oh andi, hw are u feeling? No..no..don’t, u need rest. You’re got fever.”
Fever? Really? Were mt parents worried so much about “fever”? I mean, c’mon, it’s not even a disease. However, my mom didn’t let me sit up. I lay with my mom beside me.
“This way” my dad’s voice came from the corridor, after sometime. And a second later my dad entered my room followed by a round man with a briefcase, who I realized was the doctor. He didn’t take anything seriously, which according to me was normal. He just made me drink some syrup (which was horrible), asked me to rest for some time and left.
My dear mom was planning to get my lunch to my room, but I couldn’t bare it anymore. From the moment I woke up, it was as if someone was staring at me continuously from the woods. It was very difficult to sit on my bed and not glance out of my window. But if I did so, my head would hurt, like someone was hitting it. I had decided not to tell it to my parent or they would make me drink some awful syrup again.
Going down the stairs was not as easy as always. It was as if energy had been drained out of my body. I had never felt so weak before.
But somehow I reached the dining room and we had lunch.
All I remember after that is, I was in the middle of the staircase, heading towards my room when everything went blur , then dark , . I could just hear my dad calling after me but then, pitch dark.
And again I heard the piercing voice of the women in my head.
Woke with a start in my bed. It was pretty cold but still I was sweaty.
It was night. The full-moon clearly visible from the window. The voice was nothing but a part of a very the worst nightmare ever, I thought. But no, I heard it again. I was sure I wasn’t dreaming any more.
I planned to go downstairs, to my parent’s room. I walked out of the room and immediately turned left. Facing my back to the room with the huge balcony, which was the creepiest part of the house.
The long corridor seemed to be endless. Finally I started down the stairs.
The place was lit up only by the pale light of the moon. I thought it was empty before I noticed a dark figure, peeping out of the floor-to-ceiling window beside the main door. The human like figure stood there motion-less before I guessed, “Dad?”
And to my relief he turned, no wait, he didnt turn he jumped. I had scared him, which was unusual. He must have been in a deep thought. But what was he doing here? Before I could open my mouth, he asked, ”hey, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you asleep? Something wrong? How are you-- ”
“Dad, one question at a time please.” In a second I knew he was worried about something, he questioned this way when he was hiding something.
“um..oh..oh-yeah..!!”
“I was coming to you, because..because…dad you have to believe me, I’m really hearing a woman’s voice….”
My dad face which was clearly visible in the moonlight, went pale as i said those word. “No dear, it’s just your imagination…”
“But—“
“It-is-just-your-imagination, ok?” he said as if trying to convince himself and walked in the direction of his room. Before he entered the room he gestured me to go and sleep. I nodded.
I moved towards the staircase until dad was inside his room. And once he was out of site I turned around. There was defiantly something outside the house and I needed to find out. I moved towards the window but was too scared, so thought of switching on the lights.i was about to switch it on when,
I froze.
I could sense someone standing behind. I could feel the person’s breath on my bare shoulders. It was cold, as cold as ice. At once I knew it didn’t belong to a human. I couldn’t move. No matter how hard I tried but no, my body refused.
Finally, with all my courage I turned , and noticed a pair of green eyes near me feet. Staring at me, menacingly. They neither blinked nor moved.
A thought sprang up in my mind , it might be Julie, my cat.
“Julie?” I called out hoping a meow as an answer. But nothing happened not even a blink.
And that’s when I panicked. Tears rolled down my cheeks but not a word from my mouth. I could feel the energy continuously draining out of my body. The eyes made me feel dizzy.
And almost automatically my arm lifted up, and switched on the lights. Relieved , I glanced up at them and when I looked down there were no eyes. Nothing.
