I walk up the 5 storeys till I reach my first class. I open the door and most heads turn towards me. Ugh. Why do they have to look at me? I shrug it off and head to my usual table and slide my bag on the floor and sit down. I sit there awkwardly for a few minutes until my best friend, Kaylee, walks in. She glides towards me and gives me a comforting hug.
"Hey Chacha," she greets me.
"Hey Kaykay," I answer with a smile.
I cock my head to the side and glance at Nathan. He has his face resting on his hand and his mysterious brown eyes wander around the room. His eyes find mine and we stare at each other for a split second before Jack taps his shoulder and points towards the door.
At 8, our History teacher, Mrs. Daner, walks in and puts a bunch of heavy red books on the table and announces that today we will be studying The Russian Revolution whether we like it or not. She starts babbling on about something and I pay half attention. I look outside the classroom window and gaze outside. I see two students downstairs leaning against a wall and laughing. I recognise one of them as Catalina. A few minutes later, Catalina looks up at my classroom and seems to be staring straight at me. My stomach does a backflip but I stare back at her and keep a casual smile. We keep staring at each other before the teacher walks past my desk and drops a heavy book on my hands. I immediately pull my hands back and make her book fall onto the floor. I lean down to reach for her book. I pick it up, then gaze into her hazel green eyes while handing her book back.
"Are you listening, Lewis?" she announces.
The glass giggles. Sadly, most teachers like calling us by our last name so whenever they call my name, every one pictures a guy but no, it's just me.
"Yes I am, Miss"
"Well then, what was the last thing I said?"
"The last thing you said was 'are you listening, lewis?', Miss"
In the corner of my eye, I can see Kaylee shaking her head and Nathan trying to hold in a snicker. Mrs. Daner sighs and walks towards the front of the class.
"Lewis... come see me at the end of the class."
I sigh and nod. I prop my head up onto my head and try to appear interested for what is left of of the class. Unluckily, we have 2 hours of History instead of 1 today. I resist the temptation of looking out the window to not get into even more trouble. At 10, everyone stands up and heads outside as fast as they can. I pack up my stuff and walk towards Mrs. Daner's desk. While erasing the board, she says:
"How are you today, Charlotte?"
"Erm... I'm alright miss," I hesitate, "How about you?"
"Personally, I prefer not having to lecture my students." At my confused look, she continues, "You're a good girl, Charlotte. So prove it. Don't do something that's not like you. For example, a good girl like you should pay attention in class instead of looking outside the window."
"Sorry miss," I force myself to say.
"So just be yourself? Your good little girl self."
"Yes, miss."
"You can leave now."
I rush out of the classroom where Kaylee is waiting for me. She insists on a executive summary of what happened so I explain.
"It's not big deal," she states.
"On one hand, it's not big deal. That's very true. But on the other hand, it is a big deal."
"Hahaha! Why is it such a big deal?!"
"Kaylee... she told me to just be my good little girly self."
"So?..."
"Who the hell is she to just assume that I'm a 'good little girl'?" I wail.
"Oh don't be so dramatic," Kaylee sighs.
"Why? Do you just think of me as a 'good little girl'?"
"No of course not! But you're not exactly bad-ass," she giggles.
"Fair enough. Well, THAT'S THE END OF THE GOOD LITTLE GIRL I USED TO BE!" I scream, throughout the hallway.
