Chapter 2: Spring
Word Count: 1096 words

Aura POV

The winter flew by, with me resisting the urge to call for Jack, before remembering that I had handed the Snowflake back to him. Why couldn't I have one normal winter for once without thinking about Jackson Overland Frost? I sighed, pressing my head against the window. I had completed 7 stories, over 20 drawings, and earned enough money to get me more merchandise.

And yet this wasn't busy enough to get him off my mind.

"Needle and a thread
Gotta get you out of my head
Needle and a thread
Gonna wind up dead

You watch me...
Bleed until I can't breathe
Shaking falling onto my knees
And now that I'm without your kisses
I'll be needing stitches..."

"Guess who?" Two hands clamped over my eyes, scaring me a little. I suppressed a grin as I removed his icy cold hands, exclaiming, "Jack!" I hugged him, overjoyed that I won't spend any more sleepless nights wondering where he was and what he was doing.

"Here's your necklace." He helped me put it back on, grinning at me. It was a relief to finally have it back, it's weight against my chest. I missed it so much... more than I ever had. "I'm really sorry I couldn't find time to visit you..." he continued, giving me a apologetic glance. I shrugged my shoulders, making a sweeping motion towards my desk.

"I fared quite well without you." I said with a teasing smile. He pretended to pout, turning away and crossing his arms. "You are such a meanie!" He yelled, sounded exactly like a five year old child. I reached up to pat his head, ruffling his hair in the process. Giving me the same look, his pout melted away as he told me fondly, "Not my hair, princess."

"How many times do I need to say it to get it in your head? I'm not your princess!" I pulled away. Now it was my turn to pout. "Besides, you shouldn't just be spouting pet names that often. Elsa's..."

"My queen." He interrupted me, looking out of the window dreamily. "I know. But still." I moved towards my door, my hand resting on the doorknob. I wish I could just flee, so that I didn't have to face the terrible feelings in my heart. "But still nothing. You're my princess and you'll always be." He smiled, coming over to wrap an arm around my waist.

I gave up and grinned at him weakly, opening the door. Now that he was back, I have nothing to worry about. It was spring... spring meant... Long nights up catching up with Jack, cuddling with Jack on the sofa or on my bed, and sleeping with his arms wrapped securely around me. It meant new beginnings. I smiled at the prospect of all the things to come, when he shattered them with his next sentence.

"I'm have to apologise first, before we do anything." Jack said before we could head out of the door. My heart sped up, and my hands started to sweat. "It can't be that serious." I giggled nervously, trying to smile through my nerves. He had talked about marriage just a few months before he left for his duties. It couldn't have been decided that quickly, could it?

"I have to spend the whole spring preparing for my wedding with Elsa, which would take place in the summer. You're invited, of course. But this will take away most of our nights and even days together during spring..." he said sorrowfully. "Oh!" I exclaimed in surprise, a hand clasped over my mouth. So this is it... the love of my life would be married to someone else. I lowered my head, unable to look at him in the eyes any longer.

Summoning the courage to lift it again, I forced the cheeriest smile onto my face, pushing the front door open. "Well, let's cherish the time we have together, then!" I freed myself from his grasp as I ran out of the house in false excitement. "Hey, wait! Are you coming to the wedding?" He called out, chasing after me. I couldn't.

"I don't think I can, but that's the least of your worries right now!" I flashed him another smile, running backwards now. I tripped over a few stones on the gravel, tumbling down with a shocked shriek. He managed to catch me, just barely, and we ended up in a tangled mess on the ground. "You're heavy." I wheezed, struggling to get up. "But I don't wanna get off you..." he mumbled, caging my failing arms with a hug.

"I can't breathe!" I chuckled, knowing that it would be futile to try to escape this. Might as well enjoy it, right? I closed my eyes, allowing my muscles to relax. We lay like that for a while, the light spring breeze blowing across our faces. "When is it?" I broke the peaceful silence, opening my eyes. "When is what?" He rolled off me and tucked his head behind his hands.

"The wedding." I pursed my lips after that sentence, knowing that this was it. The pain of unrequited love could compare to nothing. "July 12th. Are you sure you can't make it?" He looked distressed. "Elsa was so excited at the prospect of meeting you!" Of course, it's because of Elsa. I politely declined the offer, choosing to end the conversation by standing up.

"Perhaps you should leave." I murmured. "What?" His voice sounded pained, as if he knew how I felt once he broke the news to me. "I just need some time alone."

"You never need time alone. You've been so weird before I left for my duties, I thought the long break would give you some time to sort your thoughts out. Is it something I am doing? I know something is bothering you, and I want to help you!" I sighed, biting my lip nervously. You can't, I told myself. Your thoughts are purely due to a stupid crush, these selfish thoughts aren't to be shared with someone like Jack, especially when they are about him.

"Don't shut me out again..." he was behind me, his breath grazing my ear. My lips parted slightly, resisting the urge to just break down in his arms. He's engaged. He's getting married. These sentences repeated over and over in my head like a mantra. You can't get attached to your Guardian, you foolish girl. I let out a sob, running away as fast as I could.
