“Alex hurry up or I’ll tell Dylan to leave without you,” mum calls out to me.

I don’t usually take care in my appearance but if I want Dylan to see me more than a ‘sister’ I kind of have to try. But this uniform doesn’t do anything. Navy blue is a stupid colour and it isn’t flattering on anyone.

“I’m coming tell him to hold his horses,” I call out, while dabbing the last bit of foundation onto my face.

“Too late,” Dylan calls as he tackles me onto the bed, “who you trying to look pretty for, Alex?”

He starts tickling me and I burst into laughter, I can’t answer these are the things that make me fall in love with him all over again.

“Who, Alex?” He says again, he rolls to lie beside me.

“No-one just all the girls wear light make up to school,” I sigh.

He rolls to look at me and says something that he always says to me, “Alex, your pretty enough without make-up, make-up on you is for special occasions.”

I hate this it makes me think he likes me, but I know he doesn’t. I overheard him talking to his friends about me. He thinks of me as a sister.

“Okay hurry up I’ve got something on a school today,” he laughs and jumps off the bed to help me up. He gives me his hand and I follow.

“See you later mum,” I call out to her as I walk past.

“Have a good day at school sweetie,” she calls back.

Dylan is already outside but the car isn’t so I’m confused.

“Where is the car?” I shout.

“Mum said I couldn’t take it today because she had to go somewhere,” he explains.

“Then what are we going to school in?”

“We’re walking.”

“But you just got your licence, I don’t want to walk still and plus White High is on the other side of town to Crystalia’s!” I pout.

“Yeah I know, but I just wanted to joke around with you, the car is around the corner,” he laughs and starts running to the car.

I follow laughing and jump in the car, “so where to first?” I joke.

“How about the café down town?” he asks with a straight face.

I don’t know if he is joking or not so I just agree and laugh it off.  But the next thing I know we are pulling into the café down town.

“Dylan, why are we here?” I question, I’ve never had a day off school and I don’t want to start now.

“Pulling in for a coffee,” he explains, but I don’t want to be here school starts in ten minutes so I won’t have time to drink the entire coffee anyway.

“Dylan, no we are leaving. I’ve got to get the school. I have the important subjects today!”

“Skip school with me Alex,” he whispers in my ear.

He has never done that before, not ask me to skip school because he asks me that every other day but whisper in my ear.

“I can’t,” I whisper.

“Alex! You never do anything rebellious. It’s just one day! I’m not going to be here next year so I figured you would want to spend as much time with me as possible but that’s obviously not the case,” he marches out the door with his coffee to sit in the car.

I stand in the middle of the shop thinking about what just happened. He was fine until I said no, why is he in such an angry mood lately. I walk outside quietly and he is sitting in the car already. I contemplate just not saying anything and letting him drive me to school but he did say something that completely is what I am going to miss next year; seeing him all the time.

I climb in the car and smile at him, “where to then?”

He smiles back at me. For the first time ever since I’ve known him I was actually scared, one because he was scary back there and two, because he got me to do something that I’m completely against without much persuasion.

“How about the park?”

We drove in silence got out and he handed me some cloths to change into.

I looked at him weirdly, “I thought you would say yes today for some reason,” he replied.
