Lucy will not fix us.

When something is ripped apart, it can't be forced back together again. Our family was a quilt of memories and love ripped at the seams, and not even Lucy's soft baby toes or innocent little grin can sew us back together again.

A new sister can't replace what we've lost.

But my parents think she will. So they sign the adoption papers and set up a pastel-colored nursery and smile, late at night, because they're giving themselves a chance to try again. A new daughter...

I try not to think about the pain of when everything changed. Now, how could I not? My parents are trying to make us complete, but some holes can never be filled.
