Chapter 25

"Focus No1. Where are they?" Commander Vinyaya urged the young warlock. A bead of sweat trickled down from his grey-plated head. He was never exposed to this type of pressure in his current warlock training regimen with Qwan.

No1, Qwan, Commander Vinyaya, and a few backup LEP fairies stood in Artemis's study, the group's last known whereabouts. It was a strange feeling, being in Artemis's house without the human even being there. But the LEP were always welcome, so no invitation was necessary for them. It was a good thing that his parents were on holiday and had found his toddler-aged brothers a sitter away from the manor.

"I'm trying my hardest!" He whined defensively, and tried to concentrate on locating them. All he could see was the giant shower. And a mansion. He didn't know where it was though.

"Just focus on one person, Holly. Focus on her exact location." Qwan advised. That was better. It was much easier than trying to locate six people. No1 put all his energy into finding his fairy friend. The red rune on his forehead began to glow read and spin again. A good sign, though it stung a little. Qwan said he would get used to it. The expected red vision came and passed, and No1 saw a name. A strange one, certainly no place he had ever heard of before. Qwan noticed that his one and only student had seen something, something important. "Where is she?" He asked the awkward demon warlock.

"She's, she's in Dreamland..." No1 stated questioningly, as if he didn't believe it himself. Vinyaya shook Qwan's shoulder anxiously. The usually calm and collected elf was racked with nervousness over the kidnapping of one of her best Captains and the LEP's best technology master. She was also a bit irritated. Why did Holly continue to associate with that conflict-attracting Mud-Person? Where Artemis Fowl went, criminal activity was sure to follow sooner or later.

"What? What's Dreamland?" She asked, her usually lovely bright silver mane in a wild frizz.

"The computer. Dr. Raven needs us to help them." No1 spouted off. He had no control, so he just rambled on and on about things that didn't make much sense to anyone but himself and sometimes Qwan. This made Vinyaya even more nervous and frustrated, which frightened a couple of the LEP officers that stood too close to her in the room.

"What. is. he. going. on. about?" She growled through gritted teeth, getting a certain crazy look in her eye. She needs a relaxing cleanser spell... soon. Qwan thought quietly to himself.

"It's no use asking, we just do what he says. You'll regret it if you don't." Qwan whispered back to the Commander, who grimaced and glanced to her left. She looked away and did a double take, staring at the strange object that rested on the study's desk.

"What's this thing?" She said, careful not to touch it. She was still quite reluctant to trust the Mud-Boy, let alone any kind of gadget he invented.

"That's what brought them to dreamland. It's another dimension, a man-made dimension. Dr. Raven made it." No1 explained casually, like this sort of thing was common for the ammature warlock. Vinyaya wrinkled her nose and stared at No1 strangely.

"How do you know-" She began, before No1 cut her off.

"No time! I can take us there, but it will take twice the power of time traveling, and I need Qwan's help." He said, glancing towards his warlock teacher. Qwan crossed his arms and looked worriedly at No1. He was very powerful, yes, but he had just barely mastered time travel, and ran a very brief course on alternate dimension transportation. They didn't have much to practice with, so No1 didn't have much ACTUAL experience with the field.

"You really think you can do this? It takes an enormous amount of energy and control... and if you are to fail, the consequences would be dire. No1, you could die." Qwan warned him. No1 mentally reviewed what he had learned about interdimensional travel, recalling how dangerous and unpredictable it could be. He thought about this for only a moment, then nodded vigourously.

"These people saved me once, now I must repay them." He replied firmly. Vinyaya had her, "No" face ready, Qwan could see it.

"No, I can't have one of my only two demon warlocks dying off on me now. You will not be doing this No1." She objected immediantly.

"I know you don't much care for Artemis, though he is a nice person, but isn't your finest female Captain and best LEP technical genius in that loop?" No1 reminded the Commander, who pondered this for a bit. "Don't you want, scratch that, don't you NEED to save them?" he added, hoping that it would seal the deal. Commander Vinyaya hesitated for a few seconds before reluctantly sighing.

"How long will this take?" No1 thought for a second.

"About fourteen minutes, if all goes smoothly." He answered confidently.

"And what are the chances of that happening?" Vinyaya asked him with arms crossed over her chest.

"I predict about a forty nine percent success rate." He replied to the commander. "More or less." Vinyaya was close to objecting the idea again.

"Who will be sent into this alternate dimmension?"

"I would guess that only your best and brightest would be sent. Whoever you think is best for the job, Commander." Qwan interjected, and No1 nodded in agreement. He honestly didn't know the answer and was glad that his teacher had stepped in. Vinyaya sighed again in defeat and dropped her arms to her sides. She called over to one of the LEP fairies standing in front of the door to the study.

"Get Trouble Kelp here right away. Have him pick a recon squad of Twelve. The best we have. Holly and Foaly are worth it..."

A small part of Vinyaya had to ask herself though, were they really worth it?

I wasn't quite sure how to depict Commander Vinyaya for this chapter, so if you see any distinctions between her real character from the real Artemis Fowl books and my version, be sure to point it out. All I know is that she was Holly's old teacher or something and has really long pretty silver hair. :3.

And while we are on the subject of LEP commanders... R.I.P Julius Root. He shall be missed greatly! :'(
