The Weekend

My alarm is going off but I so don't want to get up. I slam it off and when I reach my arm over my bed something warm and wet touches it.I scream, and then I am accomponied by a howl.

"Ruby!" she stopped her barking and jumped up on my bed curling up next to me, and then rolling over onto me. "Ow, get off Ruby!" I push her off but she just barely moves and i shimmy myself out from underneath my warm covers. My feet land on a squeaky toy, and I trip over a bone. I stumble to my closet door and mutter "stupid dog toys" as I rub my toe. I grab a pair of white wash jeans and a blue shirt, and throw them on while also hurrying to put on my socks and just as I get one sock on my phone is buzzing and buzzes off my sidetable and onto the floor. "Crap, today is so not my day" I say while running over to answer my phone, "Hello?"

"Hey Jay, sorry to bug you." I heard a familiar voice say, Toby?

"Toby? How did you get my number?" I stuttered.

"Jasper's phone, oh yea and well see he decided to ride with her now like everday so..." There was a pause, still groggy I wasn't exactly comprehending anything, "well I wouldn't mind picking you up for school everyday but I understand if you don't wanna ride with me," He laughed awkwardly.

"Um I kind of need the rides, is that okay?" Shit good going Jacee, your so smooth.

"Yea! No I mean yea thats fine totally," I heard him mumble something I couldn't catch, "Alright I'll pick you up later than.. bye" Well that was awkward, oh well, I let my hair down and I had an urge to look in the mirror at my face. My family, who i hardly see, always say I am pretty, I guess so. I have a circular face and hazel eyes and freckles, and my mom says I was born lucky with a zitless face and a high motabolism. I guess I am lucky?

"C'mon Ruby," I say as I walk out the door shoes in one hand and backpack in the other. I just get to the kitchen when my phone buzzes in my back pocket. Just a text this time, I expected it from Jasper but it was from Maggie.

Maggie: Hey we still on for tomorrow right? Pizza and movie?

I didn't bother texting back I would just tell her at school. I fed the dog, got cereal and wrote a sticky note to mom in between bites, "Have a good day at work, see you tonight. -Jaycee" and then just like clockwork I heard the familiar honk of Toby's old blue Chevy.I locked the door on my way out and walked down to the car and Toby reached over and opened it up for me.

"Hey there," He said running his fingers through his hair and then putting his arm around the back of my seat showing off his tan biceps.

"Hey, so like he's done driving with us?" I asked hesitantly.

"Yea, and if you ask me, she's got him whipped more than whipped cream." I laughed and it wasn't awkward as he made his totally corny jokes. "So anyone you like yet?" He winked.

"No, I mean everyone seems cool and there are alright guys but yea no." I said trying to hide the blush I could feel rising to my cheeks.

"Oh okay, so what your saying is you still like Jasper, gotchya," He said smiling.

" I do not like Jasper, he is my best friend, hello? That is just wrong." I looked out the window hiding my face with my hair. Letting my mind wander as I thought about Jasper, and also about what Toby said.

"Hear we are, and sorry about what I said, I just thought you did," Toby sighed and his eyes said something I wasn't meant to read."Uh Jacee? Nothing nevermind." I gave him a look and then hopped out of the car.

Classes were boring and I almost got lost amongst the red locker and white walled maze filled with brown doors with no names on it, just room numbers. I climbed up the high spiraling staircase hoping this was the right staircase. I got to the top and decided to look in my backpack for my schedule, "Shit," I mumbled. And then I ran into someone and we crashed into a set of lockers. "Shit I am so sorry!" I said apologetically pushing myself off of the person. I looked into the eyes. Mike. He smiled down at me.

"It's okay, your really pretty this close against me," he stood up and wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Uh excuse me? No thank you, I like my personal space," I said pulling his arms off of me. He shrugged and winked at me.

"So why are you trying to find a class during study hall?"

"Study hall? Wait, what?"

"Yea once a week study hall."

"Crap," I said pulling out my schedule and there it was: 'STUDY HALL' well thats new this year. He laughed. "It's not funny I thought I was super late for my class!" I punched him softly in the arm.

"Ow!!," He pretended to be hurt. Then he wrapped his arm around my neck, for some reason I didn't push him away this time, and we walked out into the courtyard where I saw groups of students studying and talking with books scattered around them, some on the grass, others on the bleachers, and some on the outdoor grren tables. The many leafy trees provided shade from the sun. He led me over to an open space underneath a tree. Okay so I admit he was a charmer and I couldn't help but laugh at his stupid jokes. Wait are we flirting? The bell rung for the next class, he walked me to class and then hurried off to his own. Did I seriously just hang out with him for a whole hour? I laughed to myself and sat down next to Maggie in Spanish, and attempted to pay attention. But yet all I could think about was if I did like someone after all, but just who that someone was, now that was a problem.
